Whoever wins the election has an exceptionally difficult year or two ahead of them. Oil prices going down like good rum and Iranian oil hasn't even hit the market as yet. The Iranians reintroduction into the market could cause the price to drop between ten to fifteen dollars,so we are potentially looking at a price of 23 dollars. That is the worst case scenario but it is not out of the relm of possibility. This could be the reality for a year or two unless somebody wants to start a war in the mid east. There is SK much cheap Saudi oil on the market and no demand so it could last for a while, at least until the shale gas companies pack up shop or at least abide by trade rules.Saudi Arabia has one field that produces more oil than any other OPEC country, the Ghadawa field. It is being fully exploited and their stabilization fund has at least a hundred billion dollars in it so they could ride the storm out. The good thing about recessions is that it tends to destroy a lot of bad habits that trinis have like living beyond our means buying fancy cars as soon as we get a little money, saving for months for the carnival season

Glad to see someone is aware of the impending reality. A lot depends on what China does next + US 2016 election, but regardless high oil prices are mostly a thing of the past now.

That said, having been working abroad in several first world countries over the last few years (Denmark, Norway, Canada, Spain & UK)....Trinis are by far the most spoil and entitled people I've come across. Everywhere in the world, people know they have to work to earn a living.

Not so trini, whole sections in T&TEC and Petrotrin (as I've worked there prior) come to work to lime all day.......and maybe accumulate one of hour of work. These same idiots will then be protesting vociferously for a higher salaries come negotiation time.

The PNM is only in Trinidad.

They conceptualised and developed the dependency syndrome that we cannot get out of now. Eric Williams bring islanders and mind dem.

PRESS RELEASE-For Immediate Release
August 26, 2015
The Heliconia Foundation For Young Professionals has been granted leave to apply for judicial review against Mr. Devant Maharaj, Minister of Food Production. In the order dated 25th August 2015 Madame Justice Margaret Y. Mohammed granted the Foundation and the Foundation’s Vice President Finance Mr. Vyash Nandlal permission to seek relief for the failure, refusal and undue delay of Minister Maharaj in answering questions relating to the number of persons terminated, not renewed and the number of new persons employed by the Ministry of Food Production from June 2010 to November 2014 as well as the reasons for their termination and non-renewal and permission to seek an order of mandamus to compel the Minister to provide the information requested in the Freedom of Information Requests dated November 26, 2014 and April 17, 2015. The Order of Madame Justice Mohammed also grants the Applicants permission to seek a declaration that they are entitled to the documents, a declaration that the continued failure and or refusal by the Minister is illegal and amounts to a breach of the Freedom of Information Act, an order to provide the Applicants the information free of charge and costs for the application.

On August 14, 2015 the Foundation filed two applications at the High Court of Judicature asking the Court for leave to judicially review the actions of the Attorney General Mr. Garvin Nicholas and Minister of Food Production Mr. Devant Maharaj for the failure and undue delay of the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Food Production in responding to numerous Freedom of Information Requests.

This action by the Foundation comes on the heels of 15 pre-action letters sent in May 2015 against Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar and responsible Ministers in which the Foundation complained of the government’s systematic failure to respond to questions on the number of persons terminated, not renewed and the number of new persons employed by the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Food Production from June 2010 to November 2014 as well as the reasons for their termination and non-renewal.

The Foundation’s evidence is in the form of affidavits and accompanying exhibits filed by President of the Foundation Mr. Michael Coppin and Vice-President Mr. Vyash Nandlal (who is also joined as an applicant in the application against the Minister of Food Production) and outline in detail the chronology of the purported breaches by the Minister of Food Production from November 2014 to August 2015.

The Foundation’s current legal team includes Mr. Farid Scoon, Mr. Saeed Trotter and Mr. Kevaughn Mattis and efforts are underway to retain a battery of lawyers to review the vast breaches of the Freedom of Information Act by the present government in responding to the Foundation’s questions.

The Foundation is still awaiting word as to whether it will also be granted leave to file an application for judicial review against the Attorney General Mr. Garvin Nicholas for similar gross breaches of the Freedom of Information Act.
