So opens the trailer for the greatest hero – by general consensus – of them all.
A true teaser by the very definition of the word, Superman: Man of Steel has the web buzzing with excitement, even though it's still a full year away.
Backed by the considerable production clout of none other than Christopher Nolan (The Batman Trilogy) and directed by Zack Snyder – who was responsible for the visual feast that was 300, and the epic Watchmen – it's very tempting to think that someone has finally got it right. Superman has always languished behind other superhero-oriented movies; perhaps because of the Man of Steel's tremendous abilities, which arguably makes it more difficult to find viable and convincing enemies and adversity for him.
With a rousing score and seemingly human-oriented story, the Superman 2013 teaser trailer looks to paint Clark Kent, who is the human he impersonates in the comics in order to lead a normal life, as a young man trying to find himself in the world – very much like most other young men; minus the power to move the Earth, of course.
Played by Henry Cavill – who just recently played the Greek uber-hero Theseus in 2011s Immortals - there is a cast of highly recognizable luminaries in Superman: Man of Steel, like Kevin Costner, who plays Superman's Earth-dad Jonathan Kent, and Russell Crowe, who plays Jor-El, his Kryptonian father. Actress Diane Lane plays Superman's earth-mom, Martha Kent; actress Amy Adams plays Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, and Laurence Fishburne plays Perry White, the editor-in-chief. There are many other fine actors and actresses, playing a cast of villains and friends.
The tantalizingly-short teaser may very well be the best way to go about retelling the legend, or telling it anew. Short on manifestations of his godlike powers and focusing on the human aspect, we can certainly expect them to be put to full use in the movie, itself – we'll just have to wait until the next full trailer release to know for sure.
Good to see they got rid of the ridiculous red trunks.
it's very hard to pull off superman, for what they said as well as he's kind of a corney character. batman has depth to work with, as a directer/writer, iron man has the cockeyness. i'm kinda imagining how the old hulk tv series was, with bruce banner wandering around and ur with that character with his trials and reasoning until he breaks into the hulk. i'm thinking this is how they would do the superman to have him interesting; develop the clarke kent who becomes the superman.
This movie was pushed back to 2013 cuz of the Colorado shooting for DKR. youtube pulled this first trailer cuz of the scene at 1:56 and WB submit an edited one. This the original trailer i had to dig up to find.
