have a 7ft diawa beefstick rod that i would sell....caught some decent fishes with it, though nothing bigger than maybe 4-5lbs....probably not the best surf rod in terms of height but if you walk out and cast it works....however it has the strength for its size ( medium/heavy)
pm if interested

If you can't get one in time, go with a handline, it works better sometimes lol.

I got a Ugly Stik BWD 1101 8ft Rod & Reel combo for $600... With stainless steel hooks, normal hooks, weight, line and a mini tackle box.... Read some reviews about this particular rod and 99% of them were great... It bends very well... Will use it on tuesday and see how good she working... Lol...

What type of bait do you guys recommend i use... Heading down d' islands... (On the rocks)...

I'd tell you squid, but fresh hard to come by- try to source some fresh shrimp and joshua or herring, if you get your hand on a nice bloody fresh bonito, better yet. Walk with a small hand line and you could catch some small bait like grunts and carang, you could get a nice bite with those as bait if you can land it.

Right in the surf, I usually walk out when the tide goes way out, put down the anchor(concrete block) with the pot and let it sit until the next low tide to retrieve, I usually put a little float with 5 ft of line on top just to keep track on the location during the high tide.

Have a couple spots we get caribbean reds right around the islands, depending on your sounder you looking for soft structure down deep like sea fans. East coast have lots but its the real place for the hardier snapper like dogtooths because of the sheer amt of lobster on the reefs.
