lippy, a member of the grunt family, they get bigger than these 2 pics. They like to live in rocky areas and eat them green crabs that live on the rocks.

Yep fresh is best, white grunts(the blue striped face) are probably the sweetest fish in broth- changes the overall flavour profile , even better when mixed with some pag or snappers.

July 1st 2014:

Seaweed finally seems to be easing up at Los Iros
Caught a couple catfish about two foot long and a small ray
also got a couple more blue crab
last reel in on the 4 lines we set out, bait was gone, no fish was caught :(

Nice cavalli, but that other fish is not a lippy. I can't remember the name of that fish right now,chub or something.

Missed ah big barracuda bout 30lbs as well....but salmon givin up...ah friend caught over 300lbs of salmon...we caught those jacks on poppers....i usually catch plenty of them horse eye on the east coast but never tried one for myself....
