That is a great lens. If you are on a budget, get this and don't look back. That said, I have my 50mm f/1.4G on my cam most of the time. The 50mm is a mild telephoto and gives a nice crop when doing portraits... as well as a good perspective. I hear good things about the sigma, but it is about three times the weight as a nikon 50mmf/1.4. Sometimes I use my 35mm when I am shooting my kid as I have to be too far away with the 50mm to engage him to look at the camera.
Why do you want to buy a prime though? For low light or Bokeh? I strongly recommend buying a long lens (prime or zoom), even a slow one (f/4-5.6) if you are looking for great bokeh. Buy a prime if you are looking for low light performance.

For zoom the choices so far are Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens, a bit slow, same as the kit lens 18-55mm, and the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens..was planning to use the 35mm for low light and and upgraded general purpose zoom....but the nikkor zooms a bit slow unless u waant to put out twice the amount for it so the sigma looking like a nice deal

I was considering them after seeing the condition another photogs cam came back after soka (or however you spell it) and having decided to go out on J'ouvert I figured a filter maybe beneficial

D3200 or D7000. Or even D5100 if you really need a flip screen. The D5200 is not good value for money IMO. The 3200 has everything you need but no flip screen, and the D7000 has all the ergonomics, and off camera flash control you need for advanced shooting. The D3200 has all the resolution you need also... even more than the D7000.
