Sigma 50 f1.4 is amazingly good, took all these pics

WRT to Mr Kessy and a wide angle, have you checked the sigma 10-22mm? Supposed to be pretty good, saw Lyden Thomas with one.

That is a great lens. If you are on a budget, get this and don't look back. That said, I have my 50mm f/1.4G on my cam most of the time. The 50mm is a mild telephoto and gives a nice crop when doing portraits... as well as a good perspective. I hear good things about the sigma, but it is about three times the weight as a nikon 50mmf/1.4. Sometimes I use my 35mm when I am shooting my kid as I have to be too far away with the 50mm to engage him to look at the camera.

Why do you want to buy a prime though? For low light or Bokeh? I strongly recommend buying a long lens (prime or zoom), even a slow one (f/4-5.6) if you are looking for great bokeh. Buy a prime if you are looking for low light performance.

For zoom the choices so far are Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens, a bit slow, same as the kit lens 18-55mm, and the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens..was planning to use the 35mm for low light and and upgraded general purpose zoom....but the nikkor zooms a bit slow unless u waant to put out twice the amount for it so the sigma looking like a nice deal

You know the 35mm can't zoom right? :|

I have the 55-200 and it is excellent for good light, but not so much for action. Has ok bokeh for a cheap slow zoom. The D3200 has great high iso performance, so slow lenses should not bother you too much. It is a must buy. I never tried that particular sigma zoom so no comment on it.

Here is a shot of a dragonfly I took with the 55-200 wide open (should have used f/8 actually) in good light. Pretty sharp to me.

Dude, don't put a filter on it. The only reason I use a UV filter is because I don't want UV to affect contrast in the film I use. On digital, I rearly use them. Always a danger of ghosting and flare. My nikon 50mm f/1.4G has a hoya UV filter permanently to protect from dust entering as it pumps while focusing, otherwise I would do without.

I was considering them after seeing the condition another photogs cam came back after soka (or however you spell it) and having decided to go out on J'ouvert I figured a filter maybe beneficial

J'ouvert with a cam....
May want to invest in a rubber skin and circular hoods. Have them on my cam to help with dust

D3200 or D7000. Or even D5100 if you really need a flip screen. The D5200 is not good value for money IMO. The 3200 has everything you need but no flip screen, and the D7000 has all the ergonomics, and off camera flash control you need for advanced shooting. The D3200 has all the resolution you need also... even more than the D7000.

Hope you don't choose the 3200 solely because of MP.

Anyway guys, I'm off the Alpha market and joining my Canon pals soon, but I'm torn between these two setups.

T1i with 50mm f1.8 or 40D with same lens. Any help? Keep in mind video isn't a make or break for me personally.
