Usain Bolt congratulates Bayern Munich on Bundesliga title win

Bolt, who defended his 100m and 200m Olympic titles at London 2012, is occasionally in Munich to see renown sports doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, who also works with the Bayern team and the Germany side.

Berlin: Double Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt has passed on his congratulations to Bayern Munich on winning the Bundesliga title in record time.

Bolt, who defended his 100m and 200m Olympic titles at London 2012, is occasionally in Munich to see renown sports doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, who also works with the Bayern team and the Germany side.

The 26-year-old specifically thanked Dr Mueller-Wohlfahrt after his 100m victory in London having been treated by the German doctor in the build-up to the Olympics and says the pair speak by telephone "from time-to-time".

He is also friends with some of Bayern's players.

Bayern won the Bundesliga title for the 22nd time in the competition's 50 year history on Saturday with a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt, thanks to Bastian Schweinsteiger's second-half goal, and Bolt offered his congratulations.

"It's impressive what Bayern have done this season," Bolt told German daily Bild on Sunday after Bayern won the title with six games left, a new Bundesliga record, and hold a 20-point lead.

"To be champions with such a lead and so early in such a strong league, is extraordinary.

"First of all, I want to congratulate Basti (Schweinsteiger) and the team, who, just like the coach (Jupp Heynckes), have done a great job.

"I know how hard the boys have worked for this behind the scenes."

The Jamaican, who holds both the 100m and 200m world records, has said he wants to play football when he retires from athletics and has met several Bayern stars, including Schweinsteiger and France winger Franck Ribery, on trips to Munich.

"I like to hang out with Basti Schweinsteiger when I'm in Munich," revealed the world's fastest man, who is a Manchester United supporter.

FC Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas, left, celebrates after scoring against Mallorca during a Spanish La Liga soccer match at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, …
LONDON (AP) -- Bayern Munich was voted the top team by the AP's panel of global soccer journalists for the week the German team won the Bundesliga in record time.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi dropped from the top 10 players on Tuesday, falling to 11th place. Messi was injured in Barcelona's Champion's League game against PSG last week, although he had already scored before he injured his hamstring.
Another Barcelona player, Cesc Fabregas, was voted top player of the week. He replaced Messi and scored a hat trick against Real Mallorca in La Liga last weekend. Fabregas drew 154 points of a possible 180 from the panel of 18 voters.
''No Messi, no problem,'' Will Tidey of the San Francisco-based Bleacher Report said. ''Fabregas helped himself to a hat trick as Barcelona thumped Mallorca 5-0.''
Fabregas beat out Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. Schweinsteiger received 112 votes and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo shared third at 63 points with Atalanta's German Denis, who scored a hat trick in the 4-3 victory over Inter Milan.
Schweinsteiger scored in Bayern's 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday that clinched the Bundesliga title with six rounds left. That came after Bayern beat Juventus 2-0 at home in a convincing display in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
Panelist James Thorogood of Bundesliga.com said that after missing the penalty kick that lost Bayern Munich the Champions League final at home, ''it seemed fitting that Bastian Schweinsteiger should score the goal that won'' the title.
''The midfield maestro was at his imperious best,'' he said.
Barcelona's struggling forward Alexis Sanchez was in fifth place with 56 points, one ahead of Paris Saint-Germain's Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic was seventh with 48 points. The Montenegro international dropped his shorts to celebrate after scoring for Juventus against Pescara.
In the team vote, Bayern won 175 of a possible 180 points, with Real Madrid 20 points behind and Barcelona in third position. PSG, which fought back for a draw against Barca in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal, was fourth with 72 points and Chelsea was fifth after three victories in a week.
''Bayern have to be the team of the week, wrapping up the Bundesliga title in record time, and taking a big step towards the Champions League semifinals with their win over Juventus,'' said James Porteous of the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong.
''With an exciting young squad, piles of cash building up in the coffers of perhaps the best-run major club in the world and a revitalized Pep Guardiola on his way next season, the next few years of European football could be all about Munich.''

Unanswered. Home..away....it didn't really matter.
I like how neuer was awake for the entire game. He had an almost point blank pirlo freekick saved in the first half. I cant remember when last i saw him so alert.

Gianluigi Buffon backing Bayern Munich to lift trophy after Juventus exit

Gianluigi Buffon: No regrets despite Champions League exit

Gianluigi Buffon believes Bayern Munich can win the Champions League after seeing his Juventus team outplayed in Turin.

Bayern followed up a 2-0 win in Munich last week with another two-goal triumph in Turin to seal a 4-0 aggregate victory and progress to the last four of Europe's premier club competition.

The Juventus goalkeeper could only praise the performance of the opponents and highlight the differences between the sides after the chastening experience in front of his own supporters.

"We have no regrets," Buffon told Sky Italia. "We played the match to the best of our current ability.

"It hasn't been enough, because we have faced a team that physically, in terms of experience, for conviction and technical ability have showed they are better than us.

"The difference between us and them is in the background. They have experienced players and they have played together there for many years.

"I knew they were strong, but not as strong as they have proved to be. They impressed me more than in Munich.

"We have done what we could in our best way, but they are absolutely strong. They can reach the Champions League final and win it."

As much as I would like Bayern to beat barca, sadly that may not be the wish of UEFA who offers the title to the highest bidder.

Yet again barca plays second leg at home.

All the best of luck to you all though, see barca to an early end and may it rewarded with wine and cnut.
