No need for all this rumshop talk. The choice is straightforward:

Forty years of PNM with little to no advancement of the general populace along with corruption and mostly the Whites and Indians controlling the lion's share of the money

or

Five years of PP with advances being made in leaps and bounds, the same amount of corruption and the pie divided more equitably.

Never have I seen the black man advance in society, as fast as he has, in the past five years.

Why must we accept corruption as an inevitability of both parties??

For all the talk in here by the PNM crew about UNC corruption I have hardly seen mention of the fact that Camile"Fertility Treatment" Robinson Regis has made it back into the fold and Marlene "Calabar" McDonald is also a candidate. PNM throw some new faces into seats they would not win and have two questionable characters in safe seats.

By World Bank measurement: Most of T&T's labour force is middle class

By World Bank standards, almost the entire working population of T&T should be earning an income that qualifies them to be included in the country's middle class.

In a report released Tuesday, entitled “Economic Mobility and the Rise of the Latin American Middle Class”the World Bank said that the income definition of the middle class in Latin America and the Caribbean is between US$10 and US$50 per day. That works out between $64 and $320 per day.

In 2011, the government increased T&T's minimum wage to $12.50 per hour which works out to be $100 per day and US$15.62 per day. This means that even a worker earning the minimum wage in T&T's formal employment sector qualifies to be included in the country's middle class, according to the World Bank metric.

At US$15.62 a day, T&T's minimum wage is 50 per cent higher than the lowest threshold of the World Bank definition of middle class. T&T has a population of approximately 1.3 million and a workforce of 616,400 as at December 2011, according to the Review of the Economy published by the Ministry of Finance in 2012.

At the previous minimum wage of $9 per hour, most of the country's working population would still qualify to be included in the middle class. The $12.50 per hour minimum wage came into effect in T&T in 2011. The previous minimum wage of $9 per hour came into effect in 2005. Prior to that, the national minimum wage was $7 per hour, in effect since 2003. Therefore prior to 2005, minimum wage earners would not have qualified as middle class using the World Bank standard.

Still, according to the World Bank, T&T enjoyed the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Latin America and the Caribbean during the period 2000 to 2010. (See Figure 3.)

The overarching claim of the report is that “after decades of stagnation, the size of the middle class in Latin America and the Caribbean recently expanded by 50 per cent — from 103 million people in 2003 to 152 million (or 30 per cent of the continent’s population) in 2009.

“Over the same period, as household incomes grew and inequality edged downward in most countries, the proportion of people in poverty fell markedly: from 44 per cent to 30 per cent. As a result, the middle class and the poor now account for roughly the same share of Latin America’s population.”This is in stark contrast to the situation prevailing “for a long period”until about 10 years ago, when the share of the poor hovered around 2.5 times that of the middle class, the World Bank said.

The study, co-authored by Francisco H. G. Ferreira, Julian Messina, Jamele Rigolini, Luis-Felipe López-Calva, Maria Ana Lugo, and Renos Vakis, “investigates the nature, determinants, and possible consequences of this remarkable process of social transformation,”the World Bank said.

The study said: “Such large changes in the size and composition of social classes must, by definition, imply substantial economic mobility of some form. A large number of people who were poor in the late 1990s are now no longer poor. Others who were not yet middle class have now joined its ranks.”

T&T performed the best in our region in the last decade. I dont know where you were not to have noticed that.
If you or your family haven't developed much in the last 40 years with free education, free health care and low taxes...that your fault.

PP spent up a deficit for 5 years that we will struggle to pay back now that energy prices low and they added no new revenue stream.

Skanky, change your name to duncy.

Most of the schools on the list are rebuilds and extensions. The only "new" ones are the ECCEs, some of which were started under the PNM.

Who cares about public housing? Anyone who living in a structure composed of corrugated iron and rotten plywood on government land going to receive the same legitimacy as my Town and Country approved house. Plus T&TEC is going run electricity in that tinder box that only has one entrance in and out. First World status and building codes here we come!

A four-year-old boy suffered a severe eye injury after falling into a box drain from which steel rods were left protruding: the construction site had been abandoned several months ago by the contractor, who said he was being threatened.
The family of infant Emmanuel Black said they complained to the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation and were told they should file a lawsuit.

I cant figure this out.

A total of 132 candidates representing 16 political parties filed nomination papers on Monday to contest the 41 constituencies in T&T on September 7.

OK so PNM -41 seats
UNC/COP/TOP/NJAC - 41
ILP - 26
New National Vision-3
Trinidad Humanity Campaign- 3
Tobago Forward- 2
Platform for Truth - 2
NAR -1
National Coalition for Transformation -1
Independent -4

Thats 124---so they have 8 candidates missing . Now I unsure about the NAR and the NCT. it could be they fielding more candidates but no papers mention them.

The building and refurbishment of schools and ECCE centers has nothing to do with education, it is just a next avenue to put more money in contractors' pockets. While they were building ECCE centers they were shafting the ECCE teachers.

I'm more upset about people getting more than one HDC house and renting them out.

Well this is my concern.....its subsidized housing without a real means test to ensure that cheap MOFO s aint taking advantage...

Drive through some HDC spots and there are obvious signs that the people there are making money.

The system is being abused..which means that people who REALLY deserve being squeezed out.

It is subsidised for those meeting limited income requirements. If their income improve then they can do what they want.

So many times men say why we can't be like Singapore, well 70-80% of their housing is subsidised public housing.

Sometimes its not abuse.

A woman that I know got a house and about a year later her Father died leaving her some change. She used the money to improve her home, fencing, lawn. ect.

While things looking good on HDC houses it also means that ppl paying their rents/mortgages. When you see run down HDC houses like in couva its means ppl don't care.

It is subsidized for everyone -
All HDC houses are sold at below market rates for every recipient, representing a subsidy for the difference between the true market cost and the actual selling cost.

Borrowing costs are subsidized via low interest loans at the TTMF

And I see now there is a grant for those than can't even qualify for the low interest loans representing a further subsidy

I would prefer to know that the instances of abuse are in the vast minority.
