Pretty much expected.

As i stated many times, Trinidadians would have learnt nothing from this pandemic. Social distancing and hygiene etiquette is only temporary and in effect ONLY when mandated to do so.

We are fairly early in the pandemic, and Trinidadians are very happy and relaxed. Let’s let them out in the open free to gallop and BRAY. Let them be the irresponsible Trinis that they are and come 31st of May we can make an assessment if to lock down again for June if we have an increase in cases.

Noticed the same this morning at websource. Bout 3/4 of the customers had on masks though. Stop by the neighborhood parlour on the way back in, tants eh wearing no mask.

I was wearing a mask the entire time and might have been mind over matter but I wasn't feeling all that when I came back home. Followed the return protocol and took a bath and was back to normal. I real worried when we reopen as the wife takes public transport. You could protect yourself as much as you want, but the ignorant many does frig things up for everybody.

Equal to, not better than. Both of them is the same nastiness. He was lying right through that little press meeting. The fact that he had to hold a press conference for 10 mins just to address this Venezuela issue means it's a beehive of illegality and corruption waiting to explode and sting us. The truth must come out.

sanctions is not illegal or legal. that is just one man decide to sell somebody and decide not to sell another person, and any body that deal with that person, they dont sell them neither.

its no right or wrong to deal with venezuela. but, to suffer sanctions from US, will be pressure for the citizens.
going against sanctions on principle is okay, but if the people the sanctions are placed on is doing crap... is it that wise to put ur self in target for that regime?

quarantine patients getting cable and wifi

Flow Facebook page
Our C&W Business/Flow Trinidad team has demonstrated their ability to deliver under challenging conditions as they provided free internet and television services for 62 rooms at the most recent Quarantine Facility at the TTFA Headquarters in Couva.

They were quickly mobilized and worked tirelessly and selflessly over the weekend to hand over the Facility to the Ministry of National Security. All of this was done this in less than 48 hours. Senior Director of C&W Business, Elizabeth Ammon, said of the teams, “I am very proud of our people. It is their second rapid deployment of a Quarantine Facility; and they have again demonstrated their amazing ability and personal capacity to work very hard together, under extreme time pressure and in a very challenging time."

Trinidadians have learnt nothing. I made a grocery run today. I figured I'd head out for a stock of supplies before the rest of the herd (not immune herd but rather heard of donkeys) come out this weekend since they think that Monday things are normalizing. Anyhow, social distancing is a thing of the past. Restricting numbers in groceries is a thing of the past. People entering the grocery and not even washing hands at the sinks provided.

What I am about to say may be very selfish, but I really hope that the PM announces a continuation of restrictions. People priming up for doubles, KFC, junk food, restaurants, bars, limes etc. And with that will come the usual lack of hygiene and reintroduction of our disgusting behaviors. I really hope the PM says that this place has to stay the way it is for some time to come because those people who priming up will be the cause of a second wave.

Instead of using the last two months to try to change behaviors, once restrictions are eased, the flood gates will be open for the masses to continue with even worse behavior as they have to make up for the two months they missed out.

Max - i almost always agree with you and boy, Trinis have a lot to learn to move forward.

Not sure if this is relevant to the topic, but there were 4 PTSC buses in mt hope at 7.30 tonight. Didn't see if they were picking up or dropping off or who were the passengers, but 4 buses in mt hope at the same time is unusual.

Couple points to note
If they push the restrictions back until the cows come home, the result when they are lifted will always be the same.
This is happening all over the world, so while it is undesirable, it is by no means a purely Trinbagonian thing.
What did we expect when we load up the roadmap team with so many business special interest groups, who want to see the bottom line return, the consequences be damned?
What is needed is to ease the restrictions very gradually, and when the attendant jackarseness starts, revert to max. stay at home conditions.

Also, just to clarify my statement on herd immunity. I don't mean achieve full herd immunity, that isn't possible even in the worst affected places. not hiding from it. Especiallyy for trinis, because we don't have discipline to maintain lockdowns fully.

Sweden had no lockdown but its economy is expected to suffer just as badly as its European neighbors

Published Thu, Apr 30 20206:25 AM EDT
Updated Thu, Apr 30 20207:31 AM EDT

Sweden did not impose a full lockdown on public life or businesses, despite the coronavirus outbreak.

Data released from the country’s central bank and a leading Swedish think tank show that the economy will be just as badly hit as its European neighbors.

Sweden’s central bank, the Riksbank, gave two possible scenarios for the economic outlook in 2020, both are bleak.

The growth projections are sobering for a country that looked to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus by not shutting down its economy like the rest of Europe. Lockdowns in Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the U.K., aimed at saving countless lives, have all hit their economies severely.

The International Monetary Fund predicted earlier in April that Germany and the U.K. will see their economies contract by 6.5% and 7% this year, respectively. France is expected to see a 7.2% contraction, Spain an 8% contraction and for Italy to see its economy shrink 9.1%.

Sweden’s neighbors Finland and Denmark, which also imposed lockdowns, are also expected to see their economies contract by 6% and 6.5%, respectively.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/30/coronav ... urope.html

Sweden is testing conservatives’ preferred coronavirus response — and it’s not going well

Many conservatives are in love with the idea of Sweden’s approach—no lockdown. They don’t take into consideration that half of Swedes live alone, or that they have a top-notch universal healthcare system. They just think “no lockdown” is a better response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

If nothing else, Sweden’s alternative response to the virus was … a good control group. And what we’re learning now is that failing to shut down hasn’t just led to more deaths, but—surprise surprise!—it also didn’t prevent its economy from tanking. In fact, Sweden is poised for more economic pain than its neighbors.

Sweden is quickly rising up the ranks of the world leaders in deaths. Here is the world ranking of deaths per million residents, excluding micro-nations:

DEATHS PER MILLION
BELGIUM 726
SPAIN 558
ITALY 495
UK 451
FRANCE 395
NETHERLANDS 309
SWEDEN 301
IRELAND 284
USA 230

Sweden (like the United States) has been quickly moving up this horrid chart and will overtake the Netherlands sometime this weekend for the sixth spot in the world. Meanwhile, its neighbors following more standard shutdown protocols are looking pretty okay:

DEATHS PER MILLION
SWEDEN 301
DENMARK 89
FINLAND 46
NORWAY 40

It’s not even close. So Sweden is starting to wonder whether this all made sense. “[Anders] Tegnell, who has been leading the country’s COVID-19 response and previously defended the nation’s decision not to impose a lockdown, this week admitted he was ‘not convinced’ the unconventional anti-lockdown strategy was the best option to take,” reported Newsweek. Tegnell called the death toll, now surpassing 3,000 dead, a “horrifyingly large number.”

But that sacrifice in blood at least saved the country’s economy, right? Well, that’s the funny part. (And not in a “ha ha” funny way.) “Sweden’s economy is expected to contract between 6.9% and 9.7%,” reported CNBC. Meanwhile, this is what the International Monetary Fund expects from other European countries:

ECONOMIC CONTRACTION
SWEDEN 6.9-9.7%
ITALY 9.1%
SPAIN 8%
FRANCE 7.2%
UK 7%
GERMANY 6.5%
DENMARK 6.5%
FINLAND 6%

In a sane world, this controlled “experiment” would be reason enough for policymakers in the United States to hold back on reopening their states and the country. Instead, those ignoramuses are hell-bent on making the same obvious mistakes, pretending that returning to “business as usual” will rescue the country from economic calamity.

And sure, Republicans are stupid enough to go out and get infected, doing the virus’ dirty work for it. But the economy isn’t going anywhere as long as most people, who are sane and smart, refuse to put themselves in danger for a movie or haircut.

Or, to put it another way: It is impossible for the economy to rebound as long as a deadly virus is killing Americans at a clip of several thousand a day. If you don’t believe that, just look at Sweden.

To add to that, I don't even think this pandemic warranted such strict lockdowns. We would have been fine just going about our lives once we wore masks.

All this warning and fear-mongering just about killed the food and entertainment industry here, all for naught.

The silly thing about all of this is that you can have all these strict measures in public spaces and it will all be undone by two things:
1. House limes
2. Office and work environments

Two things that you can't exactly clamp down on. Wearing a mask all day at work will seem unnecessary to many, and house limes are even worse, ppl will relax and let their guards down.

In the 5 minutes I we were there waiting for our curbside pickup we wondered if anyone in the long social distancing lineup were aware of the service, or if this was the pandemic equivalent of the friday afterwork lime.

went c3 to deliver some items, probably half the people not wearing masks

and no where enforcing their hand washing routine anymore

Pretty much expected.

As i stated many times, Trinidadians would have learnt nothing from this pandemic. Social distancing and hygiene etiquette is only temporary and in effect ONLY when mandated to do so.

We are fairly early in the pandemic, and Trinidadians are very happy and relaxed. Let’s let them out in the open free to gallop and BRAY. Let them be the irresponsible Trinis that they are and come 31st of May we can make an assessment if to lock down again for June if we have an increase in cases.

Hello carluva,

Good write up man, you speak from the heart, i like it and your statements are crystal clear on some of the happenings in T&T.

Not many people agree with me because i speak the truth, i speak of reality and i speak it hard and to the point. That is difficult for many to accept.

Hello De Dragon,

As always your comments are welcomed.

I agree that its happening all over the world but Trinidadians make an even more of a mess because the majority are careless, uncooperative and stink. It disgusts me and they are a threat to all abiding citizens. What will it take for us to get it right? You can be how careful you want, emphasize safety on your family as best as you can, and some negligent Trini is going to let his unhygienic child spread germs to your child at school to bring it home. The assness.

Anyways, gradual ease of restrictions should be implemented, yes, but the citizens already took it upon themselves to do this on their own. The TTPS did nothing except pointless roadblocks and selective “bobolization” of citizens. No control, No order, No care.

We have not officially eased restrictions and yet there are so many people out. I believe you mentioned previously that many people have not received their grants and food cards which would account for some gatherings and that is the fault of the Govt. But what happens when we officially ease restrictions? Easing restrictions should look like what we’re seeing now so to go and “ease” restrictions is going to be another ball game. Trinis better pray that the virus is not around.
