never seen it selling locally, but i never looked for them though
Home Mart in elsocoro may have
i never bought them because of the speeds they need to work at...drill too fast and they heat up and ruin i think they work best with speeds of 500rpm and lower
you wanna make certain depth flat cuts in wood?

and the router is for pro or diy stuff?

^DIY stuff for the router, and not really certain depth cuts, basically straight through,i may need to do a certain depth for something, but thats still a toss up which depends on the thickness of wood i'll be using

I really wanna get those forstner bits though. Trying to weigh if it makes sense buying them locally (if available at all) or bringing them in.

if ur going straight through the wood, hole saws or spade bits for it yes
cheaper and easily available

the skil router mentioned in the thread works pretty decent and its around 1000.00
anything else are the higher end brands and i havent seen one for less than 1800.00

Everytime i read one of Sanctifier's threads, I feel like a child playing in a sandbox compared to that level of DIY.

I salute you sir.

As for the lift, I'm throwing around an idea in my head that would need a commercial grade lift so just want to do my homework in advance.

On another note, if anyone knows a good TRUSTED shipping company or Broker that can do heavy equipment via sea please feel free to let me know.

Online prices seem quite good compared to the local quotations i've gotten so far. I'd like to get some info on shipping something that big so i can make a fair comparison.

I used my Skil intensively yesterday and let me tell you, that frakker HEATS UP !!!

Got to a point where i could not touch the metal parts and all this through maybe 60 ft of teak molding. Sounds like a lot but it's really not that much wood.

I was surprised and a bit concerned to be honest.

It did not back down from the job and is quite powerful, however i just can't see that amount of heat being a good thing. What if i had 80 feet to do, then what?

If you plan on anything other than occasional work, i would not recommend the Skil.

i've shipped with over 6 different companies....and i've yet to find someone i could say reliable yes.

always some runaround

most common one is (when goods ready to be cleared) "we don't have the documents, please bring your copies for us so we can start processing"

I have a set of forstner bits, in a drill press they work real good
but give trouble if using a hand drill as they wobble easily esp in soft material like plywood.

the porter cable 690 routers are proven workhorses,
not too big but powerful.

I have a dewalt 621 collecting dust.

finally framed up my work table with some extra pieces of I beam we had from a shed
jus hadda get
1) a piece of construction ply for the top
2) Bench vise
3) piece of solid steel about 4inches x4 inchesx 1inch thick, that will be welded in a corner to pound stuff to take that load off the bench vise to avoid it cracking

Ur got to treat that steel first before you piant it x.Plus you could buy a 2'' thick plank and put it on the top, nothing will be too heavy for the top of that bench when it is finished, except the bench, but you can put castors with wheel locks so you can move it out when you want just by unlocking the wheels.

that is one heavy table

wire brush it and spray some wonder on the rust spots
might be a good idea to put it on wheels too

Re: :: The official TOOLS thread ::

Postby X_Factor » November 4th, 2012, 9:10 pm

yeah its really heavy
i'll start to remove the rust this week and work on putting the red oxide

i cut up all the steel before hand and my cuz came with his welding plant and weld it up within 1hr it was done

the lower brace was done out of L iron and can hold an additional shelf at the bottom

im thinking a 2" plank might carry it up too high to work comfortably
maybe pieces of 1" hardwood planks could do the job

Again, thanks for the 'props' but not sure what all the fuss is about.

Yup, new 'toys' are a bit more specialized than usual but I might go 'commercial' later on, so I'm buying used eqp't now because I'm getting it at a VERY good price.

Guys L & DG has a sale on now fro Divali and they have a Black & Decker TM550 hammer drill for $400.
Image
Is this a good model for the price? It would mostly be used once in a blue moon for making some small holes in concrete walls to hang picture frames, run PVC brackets, etc. Would this suit my needs?

Jack stands... Pricemart... Standard 18" (?) height.

Taller? (36" - 48")... eBay ("Brand Name" suppliers.)

More permanent, MOBILE, VERY expensive (and SAFER) arrangement... MaxJax. (eBay.)

OR best of all (and better than a MaxJax)... a full height (72"), MOBILE lift. (See my earlier post.)

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the links...

Link--> Click Here for earlier post.

CHEAPER alternative to MaxJax... Link--> 2-Post Storable Car-Lift.

Link--> Kernel 6,000 lb Mobile Auto Lift.

My $0.02¢
