Got my Epi Les Std plus top pro today.
1st impression was not good.
I love the finish. It's actually deeper than US PRS samples. No sharp edges or anything like that either.
The feel of the neck is good, good weight on the body too.
The strings don't bend smoothly. That's a big problem with me.
The fretwires are very smooth, so I'm blaming the sheit strings for now.
Will change them weekend and get back on that.

I love Mine. Absolutely in love with this guitar.

the set up is spot on, after tinkering a bit. Got the truss rod in order, slight saddle adjustment. The Bridge pickup is fubared, Epiphone would change it for me, but I told them I'm not shipping any guitar back. I was able to get some store credit through the buyer and I picked up a replacement for the bridge. Seymour Duncan 59 Custom Hybrid. which should work nicely with the split.

Gonna be hard comparing this to a PRS Sky. Those SEs are still the best budget single cuts you can get on the market.

After spending some time with it, the strings really are crap.
I could do with a slight setup because right now I have ideal action, but some buzzing.
I have an SE Tremonti, and it doesn't have as much body as this so I can't compare. The SE 245 will be closer to this with the chunky body.

The pickups aren't too muddy for me either.
All in all a good buy.

I'm still running factory strings here.
They aren't too bad.

Will run them out before I put on some Ernie balls. I took the pickup cover off the bridge pick up and I am going to keep the reversed Zebra look in the bridge. I never run my volume at full throttle on thois thing, can't wait to get the bew bridge pickup to see how it rips. That should be here by next week. Will follow up then.

My strings has rust spots lol.
Guess that's the advantage with ebay vs a big company like America Muasical Supply. The personal touch.
You seller would have set it up properly and put on fresh strings.
AMS had mine in a box for months.
Last night I used a vox amplug and got the tone I wanted from a hollow body, so I think I'll no longer get one. just a Telecaster, maybe a Wilshire, and no more guitars for me.
It's amazing with tone. The only thing I don't get is the strat style wailing, which I don't mind cuz I have a strat. And that's where it beats the SE. Character.

You can swab the tips of your fingers with rubbing alcohol after playing to make them callus faster. Make sure the guitar is always tuned properly; after a while you will be able to tune it to Standard by ear perfectly and detect when a string is off by even a few Hz. There are good tuning apps in Play Store.Try strumming with different picks of varying thickness (I would use Jim Dunlop 0.60, 0.73 and sometimes the 1.07 ) and learn that it is all about wrist control. Like writing. It is not just what your fretting hand can do. Acoustic steel strings are important on an acoustic guitar (Ernie Ball). Electric strings will not give you the right acoustic reverb sound on a wood semi-acoustic guitar, but they will still sound good when plugged into an amp.

Learn as many chords as you can, learn to hold them firmly and correctly, learn barre chords and then scales. And practise. Practise more and more. Practise what you feel and make the guitar whine and cry your emotions in bends and vibratos like David Gilmour or the wizard Jeff Beck. However, The Edge says that he considers notes as expensive and prefers to keep it simple, and he still ends up with amazing stuff like One.

dr stringlife. its a polymer based coating that preserves the strings and is also not toxic if i remember correctly. prevents rust from accumulating moisture. it was the only thing i could get to stop my strings from rusting every 2 weeks and needing to change.

Learn how those chords are made.
Learn how the scales that made those chords are made.
Learn how the scales relate to each other.
At that point you'll start discovering new scales and chords (new to you)

About d dude who wrote about edge. I don't think as a beginner anyone shud look at notes being expensive... To all d advice bout learnin as many chords, wat use is it if you don't know how to use them? Learn chord theory as well as chords, the use of majors, minors, sevenths as well as finger picking exercises and scales. Everything is available on youtube nowadays, when I was learning guitar, I rem sitting by the radio trying to figure out the chords for a song, or the key that they were in, that's how I developed an ear.. There's no replacement for practice, so u need to put in those hours. There are so many amazing guitarists, from Van Halen who pioneered his own style to Randy Rhoads who outshun Van Halen at his own game, steve Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, BB King, Jimmy Paige... All of them are complete guitarists.. I respect edge for mastering delay an that hold echo echo echo sound lol, but he isnt a technical player, he makes up for it in the gear he has, and makin those few chords and notes count. Anyways daz my 2cents. Play on fellas... We go pick (lol)

The long echo is made by what he calls the infinite guitar.
He doesn't play like a virtuoso because he's focused on his job in a band and supporting the song or singer. And he does it superbly. He never took attention or the spotlight in the band, yet it was given to him.
His delay was a big mystery and men who knew had to sign contracts. But now it can be had with the TC electronics flashback delay.

This vid has the infinite guitar.

TC only does part of the job buddy! Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge U2 fan, and respect him for his contribution to rock and his style (which paved the way for many newer bands).. I jus don't think a beginner shud study him.. His rig is incredible tho..

"In the finished article, the only thing that is important is whether it moves you or not. There is nothing else that is important at all."
- Roger Waters, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, 1972

And in the end that is all that will matter. So yeah, a beginner should study what turns it on for him musically and emotionally. And that could be a whole range from Bach to Slayer, Elvis rock to Mississippi Blues, technical progression of Rush to the hard rock blues of Slash.

While being technically efficient and understanding the science of an instrument and theory of music is important for musical development, that's not what the heart of music is. I remember reading that the root of rock n' roll was seeded in the Southern Mississippi states where generations were born out of slavery but still faced the same hardships. They couldn't even read and so they tuned their guitars to open chords and started the style that evolved into what we know today, with glass bottlenecks and wailing bends and all. Have you ever heard the original "When the Levee Breaks" recorded in 1929, based on the Great Flood of 1927? We know the Led Zeppelin version (my opinion of the best Zep song), but I still enjoyed the original so much because of what the music was telling. Link: http://picosong.com/ybXc

Beginners, of which I am too: I don't believe that you have to learn anything specific to enjoy the music you want to play, but later on it would be better if you had learned music theory from the start. And of course don't limit your styles to one musician.
