Andy Rubin no longer leading Android, replaced by Chrome exec Sundar Pichai

There's a big upheaval afoot at Google -- Android lead Andy Rubin is stepping down from his position to "start a new chapter" at the company. Sundar Pichai, who currently oversees the Apps and Chrome projects, will take over the top spot in mobile. Neither the company nor Rubin have explained the reasoning for the management change so far, although it's safe to say that Rubin is going out on a high note when most smartphones sold today use the OS he helped create. CEO Larry Page mentions 750 million Android device activations as of Rubin's move, and over 25 billion cumulative Google Play app downloads.

Eye tracking/scrolling tech which may be quite buggy or impractial, a new 8 core processor and GPU. Most likely the same plastic shell

That's about it from the leaks but I do hope there's more. Not worth it for a whole new product launch so soon. Really, what apps are you going to run on the S4 that you can't run on the S3 that will require an 8-core chip? They could have waited until next year and added on some new flexible LCD tech and well as developing Android 5 and a new shell design with subtle gecko grip. The S2/S3/Note2 market still so huge, don't understand the marketing scheme behind these releases.

Phil Schiller knocks Galaxy S 4 for 'year-old software,' claims Apple does things better

On the eve of Samsung's highly anticipated S 4 launch, Apple's marketing chief Phil Schiller has been on the attack. After calling Android "a free replacement for a feature phone," in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Schiller has shifted his attention to Samsung directly. Speaking to Reuters, Schiller criticizes Samsung for rumors it plans to introduce its S 4 with an older version of Android.

"We are hearing this week that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is being rumored to ship with an OS that is nearly a year old," says Schiller. "Customers will have to wait to get an update," he adds, while pointing out that over 50 percent of iOS users are running the latest update. Reuters reports that Schiller also pointed to research data that claims customers with iOS devices use them more than people who own Android devices.

Schiller's comments come at a time when Apple faces increased competition from Android and Samsung directly, while investors and analysts are eager to hear how the company plans to ensure the iPhone will continue to compete against big screen Android devices this year. Apple isn't expected to launch a new iPhone for months, but Schiller is clearly attempting to ensure Apple is part of the conversation as Samsung launches its new flagship later today.
