Ent I tell allyuh me ent know nothing?

Now, all the passengers who were on that Tobago flight with the young person will have to be found and quarantined.

News said that Tobago does not have proper protocols in place to deal with this. Quarantine ward does not have working a/c but only open windows.

This is just the start. Pray for the best.

Y’all over reacting. This is just like the flu. If you’re healthy you’ll recover! Start taking y’all vitamins and eating right and y’all will be ok.

You’re wrong bro.

Coronavirus def has a faster rate of infection but it’s not as deadly as the flu.

There are two numbers:
- R0 (R Naught) is the number of people that become infected by a carrier.
- CFR (Case Fatality Rate) is the percentage of people who die from the viral infection.

H1N1 (2009) is R0 ~1.5, CFR ~0.2% (150K to 575K deaths first year).

Spanish Flu (1918) is R0 ~2.0, CFR >2.5% (20M to 50M deaths first year).

COVID-19 is R0 ~2.3%, CFR ~2.0% and subject to change with more data.

You’re Likely to Get the Coronavirus

Most cases are not life-threatening, which is also what makes the virus a historic challenge to contain.

JAMES HAMBLIN
FEBRUARY 24, 2020

The Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch is exacting in his diction, even for an epidemiologist. Twice in our conversation he started to say something, then paused and said, “Actually, let me start again.” So it’s striking when one of the points he wanted to get exactly right was this: “I think the likely outcome is that it will ultimately not be containable.”

Lipsitch predicts that within the coming year, some 40 to 70 percent of people around the world will be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. But, he clarifies emphatically, this does not mean that all will have severe illnesses. “It’s likely that many will have mild disease, or may be asymptomatic,” he said. As with influenza, which is often life-threatening to people with chronic health conditions and of older age, most cases pass without medical care. (Overall, about 14 percent of people with influenza have no symptoms.)

Lipsitch is far from alone in his belief that this virus will continue to spread widely. The emerging consensus among epidemiologists is that the most likely outcome of this outbreak is a new seasonal disease—a fifth “endemic” coronavirus. With the other four, people are not known to develop long-lasting immunity. If this one follows suit, and if the disease continues to be as severe as it is now, “cold and flu season” could become “cold and flu and COVID-19 season.”

given the large infection in italy

one must surmise that the huge undocumented population of african and mideast/iran/syrian refugees between italy and france must eventually have some infections at present but of course these folks dont go to doctors or have ready access

In case anyone is wondering what the big spike is about. China changed the way the counted new cases to include all suspected cases so a lot more people were included. They changed the method of counting again about 5 days ago to only include people that tested positive with the test kits. This means all of the previous additional positives were subtracted again giving a very unreliable picture of the overall trend.
