T&T’s fifth McDonald’s opens at Gulf City
Published: Wednesday, December 25, 2013
Gulf City Mall manager Seunarine Sanmook, centre, cuts the ribbon to the newest McDonald’s restaurant and is assisted by Jameela Mohammed-Ali, Arcos Dorados T&T market manager, right, restaurant manager Valmiki Persad, left, and Kalifa Duncan, Arcos Dorados T&T operations supervisor.
Arcos Dorados, the largest operator of McDonald’s restaurants in Latin America and the Caribbean, opened its newest restaurant in Trinidad on Saturday in Gulf City Mall. This marks the second McDonald’s in south Trinidad and the fifth in the country. The company also announced it will open its first dessert centre within the next few weeks at Gulf City Mall.
Jameela Mohammed-Ali, market manager for Arcos Dorados T&T, said: “We continue to show our commitment to the people of south Trinidad by opening this second restaurant in a matter of months. “In just over two years, Arcos Dorados has successfully opened and operates five restaurants in Trinidad, exemplifying its commitment to the market.”
Like all McDonald’s in T&T, the new Gulf City Mall restaurant has a modern ambience and comfortable seating areas for guests. It includes a state-of-the-art PlayPlace, McDonald’s safe and fun play and activity centre for children.
Just last week, Ronald McDonald paid a surprise visit to Gulf City Mall and McDonald’s Gulf View, sharing fun and season’s greetings with customers in anticipation of the store’s opening weekend. On opening day, the first 50 customers received courtesy cards, and activities included face painting for kids and balloon giveaways.
Arcos Dorados is also creating new employment and business opportunities for locals with this new restaurant, with approximately 30 new jobs. Collectively, the two South restaurants have created approximately 100 jobs in a company that is recognised as one of the leading employers in Latin America, offering flexible hours, opportunities for growth and development, and a very welcoming work environment.
The company is ranked sixth among the top 25 best multinationals by the Great Place to Work Institute and is one of the ten largest employers in the region according to the Latin Business Chronicle. In addition, McDonald’s partners with several local suppliers, some based in South, for items like pastries, ice cream and chicken.
“When we entered Trinidad and Tobago, Arcos Dorados made a vow that we would provide not only a one-of-a-kind dining experience, but that we would be a good neighbour, providing jobs and training, carrying out charitable works and creating new business opportunities for local suppliers. Another example of our contribution to the local economy is investing in local suppliers,” Mohammed-Ali said.
“We focus our efforts on being part of the local community and making a tangible, positive contribution. We are dedicated to bringing the best that we have to offer in quality, service and opportunity to this beautiful country.” The company celebrated McDonald’s T&T’s second McHappy Day on November 15, the company’s global annual fundraiser, to raise proceeds for the Christ Child Convalescent Home in Diego Martin.
