The dragging of feet and hesitation in the candidate selection process now make sense. They don't know what the hell to do with Prakash et al

At least generally most of the population not eating the crap these "leaders" preaching.

I could understand if you were talking geographical neglect as opposed to racial neglect.

Please stop with the cry-me-a-river syndrome.

So what is the excuse for black people and their constant demands and cries for government assistance?

Seeing that you are not indian and would not understand how indians sacrifice to save a dollar to seek the interest of their children I will teach you so you don't become a stereotypical blackman and will be as successful as these same doctors and lawyers who gained nothing from the government for their success.

Look in your office and see who buys big nice lunches and who saves their money and eats bread or roti, those that bring lunch. Who limes after work every Friday and who limes once a month.

Indians have saved a little to get what they wanted never depending on Government because the PNM gave them nothing in their 50 years of existence.

To get anything from the PNM you had to join their party.

True Indians run down money and physical possessions and fight with their siblings over assets and never really enjoy it or life and die leaving it for their children to squander while African people live life to the fullest.

Very true about indians. The children fight for inheritance. The parents are at fault for not distributing in advance but depending on goodwill which is nonexistent with wealth.

Black people lifestyle is the reason they have nothing to give their children or fight for. Hence why they depend on or beg government. They fully understand the importance of being in government rather than indians who don't care because they work for what they want. If only indians were more dependent they would understand the importance of government. Hence the crab in a barrel theory.

Plain talk bad manners.

I feel sorry for them, when they can't win the argument with facts they just appeal to their primary deciding factor anyway, ethnicity.

I would want to pour more scorn on them but it is also evident in some PNM supporters as well.

It makes all their justifications and govt achievement threads moot.

Interesting take by Kevin Baldeosingh. Here are some excerpts:

"Many people have been criticising the No-Rowley campaign for being crass, base, and vicious. Which it is. At the same time, most of these critics have no problem with PNM spokesmen who call Kamla Persad-Bissessar an alcoholic or their not-so-coded rhetoric which asserts that the UNC and Hindus are agents of Satan. Political analyst Selwyn Ryan, for example, condemns the No-Rowley ads as “cynical, comical, and disgraceful,” but describes the PNM Women’s League attacks on Kamla as “brilliant, sharp, and destructive.” Which are two out of three adjectives that have never been associated with the FAB." (Fat A** Brigade)

In his book The Political Brain, psychologist Drew Westen cites studies from American elections which show that “people’s positive and negative associations to a candidate were better predictors of their voting preferences than even their judgements about his personality and competence.” He lists managing these associations as the second most important goal in an election campaign, but it is clearly the primary foundation of the No-Rowley campaign, which has no purpose except to promulgate a threatening image of the PNM leader.

“Fear ads are useful for scaring up support in the unlikeliest of places,” writes political scientist Ted Brader in his book Campaigning for Hearts and Minds, “and enthusiasm ads are useful for shoring up support closest to home.” This is the blueprint for the parallel campaign to portray Kamla as the caring grandmother figure.

The first most important goal in a campaign, Westen writes, is “to define the party and its principles in a way that is emotionally compelling and tells a coherent story of what its members believe in, and to define the other party in ways that undermine its capacity to resonate emotionally with voters.” This is the main strategy being used by the PNM’s managers, who of course are using the same political hymnbooks as the UNC. That is why the PNM ads tout a PNM victory as a “return to decency and good governance,” despite this phrase echoing hollowly to anyone familiar with that party’s first 30 years in office.

In respect to the second clause of Goal#1—to define the other party in ways that prevent it connecting emotionally with voters—the PNM’s strategy has been to portray the UNC as racist and the most corrupt administration ever. The determiner “most” is important, since the PNM is also perceived as a corrupt party but, by harping on “most”, the sub-text is that PNM corruption will benefit voters for the PNM and not just the clique of party financiers. This is linked to the main message about the UNC being racist.

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20150802 ... ting-party

A poll commissioned by the United National Congress (UNC) has identified corruption as the party’s major flaw, its achievements as its major strength, and that if measures are not implemented soon to regain a six per cent loss in support, it could cost the party the general election.

The Express obtained a copy of the poll, which was conducted by the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES) and dated June 2015.

It noted that while Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar once held a clear lead over People’s National Movement (PNM) leader Dr Keith Rowley, “recent events appear to have substantially altered that reality”.

“The swing analysis demonstrates that the UNC has lost support to the extent of six per cent at this time and this is enough to cost the party the election. It could be argued, however, that the poll has been taken at a time when the UNC is at a low-point and with substantial time to go before the election is held it is entirely possible that this can be reversed,” the report said.

“Specifically, the major issues identified seem consistent with what would be expected of a population in election mode, however, respondents immediately changed their priorities when asked what issues would influence their voting during the election and the issue of corruption emerged. The issue of corruption is undoubtedly linked to the Warner issue and is the area in which the UNC performed the worst in the poll.

The poll concluded:

1. The issues most likely to influence voters now--Corruption Generally (20 per cent); Cost of Living (17 per cent); Crime/Security/Drugs (15 per cent); Employment (13 per cent); the State of the Economy (10 per cent); Leadership (8 per cent); Health Care (4 per cent); Housing (4 per cent); Youth Concerns (3 per cent); Roads/Infrastructure (3 per cent); Education (2 per cent); Jack Warner issue (1 per cent); and Public Transportation (1 per cent).

2. The population is most impressed with the Government’s performance in education and the least satisfied with corruption.

3. The UNC’s selling points are its achievements, followed by its leadership, while the PNM’s strongest attribute is its leadership followed by its candidates.

4. While there is no significant gender difference in party support, “it does support the theory that the PNM appears to have captured the younger vote on this occasion”.

5. The UNC’s support in terms of employment and income is clustered among the upper and lower bands, suggesting it has a weakness among the middle classes.

6. At the national level and among “Uncertain Voters”, Rowley has a clear lead on Persad-Bissessar.

7. As for “Other” Prime Minister: Jack Warner—1.2 per cent; Pennelope Beckles—0.4 per cent; Fitzgerald Hinds—0.2 per cent; Amery Browne—0.1 per cent; David Abdulah—0.1 per cent; Vasant Bharath—0.1 per cent; and Winston Dookeran—0.1 per cent.

8. As for “Voting Intention”, the UNC is currently popular with 26 per cent of respondents, while the PNM has 30 per cent popular support, with 41 per cent cumulatively falling within the “uncertain” category.

“The major focus going forward therefore ought to be the views and opinions of this 41 per cent ‘uncertain voters’ who have been identified in this survey specifically and who could yet tip the political balance in one or either direction. At this time, however, that group appears in-sync with the wider population and broadly supportive of the PNM,” it said.

Keith Rowley Promises To Give Every Child A Tiida with “Tiidas For Toddlers” Programme

With the election campaign heating up as September 7th draws near, Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley announced a plan to reduce the nation’s road fatalities during Emancipation celebrations over the weekend. During his speech, Dr. Rowley promised that should the People’s National Movement gain power, his new “Tiidas for Toddlers” programme would cut the number of road fatalities drastically.

“Tiidas for Toddlers” would see the Rowley administration handing over Nissan Tiidas, free of charge, to children below the ages of four in order to train them in proper road safety. A passionate Dr. Rowley told the exuberant crowd, “For too many years Tiida drivers have been the scourge of the nation’s roadways, and while many of us may say to ourselves that they have the awareness, attention span and mentality of small children, independent study has actually confirmed that toddlers are 40% more aware of the road than the average Tiida driver. With Tiidas for Toddlers, we hope to change that through training, education and the staple PNM handouts. By handing out cars to children, we will acclimatize them to the rules of the road at an earlier age, and train them not to fall into the bad habits Tiida drivers are commonly known for, such as tailgating, reckless overtaking and driving on the shoulder”.

With a roar of approval from the crowd spurring him on, Dr. Rowley continued, “My detractors and opponents may tell you to be concerned with an increase in traffic with all the extra cars on the road, as there is already gridlock everyday to and from Port of Spain. My response is to let it be known that “Tiidas for Toddlers” training will be taking place at non peak hours when most people are at work, so that their kids can practice driving in the roads without worrying about traffic or adult supervision”.

Dr. Rowley also addressed the issue of children safety as well, stating, “While some of you all may be concerned for the safety of your children driving at such a young age, I am telling you tonight, not to be, as our research has shown that statistically, a four year old child is safer driving itself on the nation’s roads than in a Tiida with an muffler bearing speeding on the highway"
