That's a real issue. I recently heard about a incident related to a gunpoint car jacking. The robbers were apprehended and Newsday published the victim's name and address. Lo and behold, the father one of the foqers shows up at the victim's home to request that the pending case be dropped because of the son's alleged insanity. Mind you the newspaper never interviewed the victim and apparently got the information from the police report

Another thing. A better method for id parades has to be used. Heard stories of witness intimidation by family members outside the police station

That's madness yes. Just as underaged accused are given protection (not sure if by law or media policy) same should be given to all victims and witnesses

Actually, rollingstock cud correct me if I am wrong, but I heard for id parades a relative of the accused has to be present for the id parade. I'm not sure how true this is, but this is what I was told. No wonder we have a crime problem.

GUYS DID YOU ALL READ THIS.......

If bandit was prepared, officers would have been killed’

Story Created: Apr 20, 2015 at 9:33 PM ECT

\\\\\ PORT OF SPAIN

A CLOSE male relative of Avalon Sanchez who was shot dead by the police last Thursday during a shootout in Santa Cruz swore yesterday that had Sanchez been prepared, none of those officers would have been alive today.

The chilling interview took place outside the Forensic Science Centre in St James where the bodies of two men, Sanchez, 26, and Evin Lyndon, 35, had been taken to be examined to determine their exact cause of death.

According to the results, both men died as a result of the multiple gunshots wounds.

Sanchez and Lyndon were among a group of four men who entered the home of a businessman around 3.30 p.m. on Thursday at Rampersad Trace, Munroe Road, Cunupia. Displaying legitimate-looking Ministry of Health badges, two of the four men claimed they were from the ministry and they needed to examine the premises.

When they entered the secured compound, the two men drew pistols and announced a hold-up following which they allowed the other two men in. Everyone in the house was then tied up and the men proceeded to rob the family of $400,000 cash, jewelry, lap-top computers and cellular phones.

The men then escaped in a white Nissan Tiida which had been reported stolen hours before.

What the men did not know as they sped off heading north along the Uriah-Butler Highway was that they were being followed by an off-duty Regiment officer who was able to determine the men’s location as one of the stolen phones contained a Global Positioning System App.

Up to then the four men did not know they were being followed as the app was able to pin-point their exact location.

The police were notified about this and a team of officers led by Supt Johnny Abraham tracked the Nissan Tiida to a house at First Street, Sun Valley Drive in Santa Cruz.

According to the team of Central Division officers who arrived at the house around 6.30 p.m., they began surrounding the house but while doing so they were fired on by the men inside.

The officers took cover and began firing back.

One of the men managed to escape by running outside and while turning around firing at the officers he was able to run into the bushes around the property.

By the time the shooting stopped, three of the men were seen lying on the floor with gunshots about their bodies.

All three men were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope but on arrival, one of them was declared dead. Another one of the gunmen died while undergoing surgery and a third man, a fireman who police said was stationed at the Arima Fire Station was stabilised and remains at the hospital in stable condition under heavy police guard.

At the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday, the close male relative of Sanchez spoke openly about Sanchez.

He said that as a bandit he would be the type of man who would tie up his victims and would never harm them.

He said that had Sanchez known the property was about to be boarded by the police he would have been better prepared and quite a few officers would have been killed that evening.

He described Snr Supt Abraham as “an evil man cause is 12 bullet he put in my brethren”.

He also explained that about a month ago Sanchez has received information about the valuable contents kept at the Cunupia house from a female friend of his and it was from then he began formulating his plan by getting hold of an official Ministry of Health badge and then making four of his own in a bid to execute the plan.

He chided Sanchez for being too greedy during the robbery, saying if he had just stolen the money he would have been alive today.

Central Division Police are continuing investigations. —Gyasi Gonzales

Well yes...

See why you can't trust anyone this rounds?

Even people that you hire to do minor work for you around the house (painters etc.)

While i understand that we all are happy that the perpetrator got put down..that kind of behaviour could have killed her as well.. worst yet if the man had shot back just as an reflex to getting shot..someone else could have gotten hurt...all i am saying is that our officers need to know how to diffuse situations with the least amount of risk possible..it is human lives at stake.

So i reiterate good job Officer..but the incident should be looked at and used as an training tool to guide officers in similar situations..

Oh some of you may not know this but that is actually a Taxi stand, where children, senior citizens pass to get transportation...it is not a lonely street with only the three parties involved.... I am just voicing a concern that can make Trinidad safer for us all...WHO vex could make a spin and F#@k off

That does only happen in tv shows. Hardly in movies, much less for real life.

Bandit shot dead by businessman

Jensen La Vende

Published:
Thursday, June 25, 2015

A suspected bandit was shot dead yesterday when he reportedly broke into a liquor mart in Arima. The dead man was not identified by police up to late yesterday. Police said the man attempted to rob J and R Liquor Mart on Quesnel Street, Arima. They said the owner of the business, Steve Jules, who lives upstairs his business, heard a commotion downstairs and went to investigate.

While doing so he was reportedly attacked by the bandit and the two men fought. Jules, police said, pulled out his licensed gun and fired a shot at the man who died at the scene. In an unrelated incident, a two-week old grudge is said to be the cause behind the killing of a Cunupia teenager, according to police.

Police say 19-year-old Isa Jawara, of Kernahan Trace, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, was gunned down while liming with friends on Monday night at a basketball court near his home. Police said around 9 pm Jawara was with the group when a white car pulled up and a man opened fire. The group scattered leaving the gunman’s target in the open. He was shot in the head and back police said.

The killing stemmed from an argument the teen had with residents of Governor Trace, Las Lomas. His killing has taken the murder toll to 192 for the year with the corresponding toll for last year being 208.
