it's not copying the iphone tag. since it's Samsung branded, they're using the Galaxy S tag but calling it Nexus S instead

S in this case is for Samsung

Firdaus Selamat: put it into the SD card using the usb cable.. then just browse your sd card from your phone then find the installation file that you put in to the SD card.. just click to the file and it will automatically installed it..

every time you mount the phone as a removable storage on your computer you need to safely remove hardware and then disable usb storage from the phone after. i had this issue once where i just unplugged the phone and the files i copied were not on the sd card. try that

i rooted my X10i last night using z4root. jus install the app, one click and it reboots. voila, root....

removed those unnecessary apps. now to wait for the custom 2.2.1 firmware to be ready.

works great with ADW Launcher as well

Chrome event confirmed by Google for December 7th

Image

Well, it looks like our sources were right: Google just announced an event in San Francisco for December 7th, which promises "exciting news about Chrome." Naturally, we're expecting that to be the announcement of a Google-branded netbook that runs the Chrome OS, in addition to the launch of the Chrome Web / App Store. Interestingly, it's pretty short notice for this sort of announcement, and it's also conflicting with the D: Dive into Mobile conference which is happening a few miles north on the same day. We don't know if that's poor planning on Google's part, a sign of last minute adjustments in the product, both, or neither, but either way it's going to be a pretty exciting week!

PlayStation Phone 'Zeus Z1' caught on video again, this time you can actually see it (update)

Wow guys, we just spotted a new video of the PlayStation Phone, codenamed Zeus Z1, and this time we get a long, loving look at the entire device -- a refreshing contrast to last time's blurry tease. In addition to appreciating just how fat this phone is, and just how real it is, you can clearly see a "PlayStation" icon, which should hopefully put to rest any doubts that this phone will actually play PlayStation games. Check out a close-up of the icon after the break. Oh, and by the way, there's no audio on the video, your computer is not broken.

Check out a brief look at the PlayStation app

For all Sony Xperia X10 users; if you find it kinda hard and tiresome to search through xda for all things Xperia (root apps and best xperia apps, firmware updates, updates in general) plz bookmark this blog. He always has the best updates and apps for Xperia which he finds on xda and other websites. Solely based on Xperia X10.

Google's Nexus S official, coming December 16th to US, 20th to UK (update: $199 on contract, $529 unlocked)

Image

This thing is all but official anyway, but for what it's worth, Google's now got its own product page live for the upcoming Nexus S from Samsung. Here's the rundown: 4-inch WVGA display, triband HSPA with AWS support (no HSPA+, seemingly), 5 megapixel camera, NFC, 16GB of onboard storage, 512MB of RAM, available on T-Mobile. It's also got a gyroscope -- as do the existing Galaxy S phones -- along with something being called the "contour display" (which matches up with rumors we've heard), integrated VoIP support, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Interestingly, the phone's quoted as having nothing more than a 1GHz Cortex A8-based Hummingbird processor, seemingly shooting down rumors that this thing would be rocking the Orion dual-core setup. Ah, well! Peep all the shots in the gallery below.

Update: And now it's official! According to the Official Google Blog, the Nexus S will be available for purchase after December 16th "online and in-store from all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores," either unlocked or with a T-Mobile plan. Across the pond, look for the Nexus S to hit December 20th at Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy UK. Videos after the break.

Update 2: Best Buy's let out the pricing details: $199 with a two-year T-Mobile contract or $529 unlocked.

Android 2.3 SDK revealed, Gingerbread improvements called out

Image

And finally, here it is! Android 2.3 -- perhaps better known as Gingerbread -- is now official, bringing a host of tweaks that should get the Android faithful pretty stoked. Most notably, the new build is being called out as significantly better for game development, tying in nicely with all these Sony Ericsson rumors we've been hearing as of late. Also on deck is tightly-integrated VoIP support, video calling support via a front camera, better cut-and-paste, NFC integration, gyroscope support for more accurate orientation data, an improved download manager, a redesigned keyboard with multitouch support, and an integrated task manager. Follow the break for the platform's introductory video.

based on this comparison:
Nexus vs X10

the new features don't seem that great. so i still prefer my X10 over it. the X10 has already been rooted and custom rom development has begun. so android 2.2 isn't far away and soon 2.3.

hey guize get the new version of app planet.
and get Poweramp , its the coolest music player i've seen.

http://www.mediafire.com/?76itn92w93d5sjf (full version)

Image

There is certainly no shortage of music players for Android, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. In addition to the default Android music player, there’s DoubleTwist, WinAmp, Vanilla Music Player, and the list goes on. I’ve never quite been satisfied with any Android music player, until now that is.

PowerAMP Music Player for Android is the first music app that hasn’t made me immediately go looking for something new to try. It is stylish, easy to use, and offers a great equalizer with tons of great preset options. The layout is very crisp, and just makes sense to use. For example, when a song is playing, pressing the area containing the artist name and title brings you back to the previous menu you were on.

Image
As previously mentioned, PowerAMP Music Player features a robust equalizer, with the ability to adjust your own settings, or choose from a variety of standard presents such as Rock, Dance, and Classical.

Google Chrome OS gets detailed, first laptops from Acer and Samsung coming mid-2011

Image

Google just demoed Chrome OS running on a piece of reference hardware at its event in SF. It just takes four steps and less than a minute to set up a brand-new Chrome OS machine -- it pulls all your Chrome themes and settings from the cloud, so it's ready to go almost right away, and changes can propagate in less than a second in some cases. The reference machine demoed was able to come back up from sleep almost instantly -- Google says the limiting factor is actually how fast the user can move their hand. (It wasn't that fast in the demo, but it was still really fast.) The OS also supports multiple accounts with a guest account that runs in Incognito mode, and all user data is encrypted by default. The OS itself is loaded on read-only memory that can't be altered without physical access -- a tech which enables verified booting. (A "jailbreak mode" switch on the developer units lets you install whatever you want, but we'll see what the final machines support.) What's more, the OS will be automatically updated every few weeks -- the goal is for it to get faster over time, not slower.

There's also offline capability -- Google Docs was demoed running offline, with changes synced when the machine reconnects. It seems like that's an app-specific feature though -- apps on the Chrome Web Store have to be built for HTML5 offline to work, obviously. Google also demoed Google Cloud Print, which allows you to print on your home printer from anywhere. Chrome OS devices will also be able to use new Verizon 3G plans for offline access -- you'll get 100MB of free data per month for two years, and then plans start at $9.99 for a day of "unlimited access" with no contracts required. (There will eventually be international options, but those weren't detailed.)

There are still some unfinished bits though -- there's no support for the USB ports on the machines yet, and there are still some performance tweaks and bug fixes to come. (Don't expect ever being able to connect a printer, as the company think its Cloud Print service is a better option.) The OS will come on Intel-based machines from Acer and Samsung in mid-2011 -- and "thousands of Googlers" are using Chrome OS devices as their primary machines. An unbranded 12-inch reference machine called Cr-48 will be available for developers -- read more about that here.

Overall, Chrome OS is very much a modern riff on the "thin client" idea from the 90s -- an idea that Eric Schmidt himself pioneered while at Sun. Indeed, Schmidt took the stage at the event to explicitly draw the connection, saying that "our instincts were right 20 years ago, but we didn't have the tools or technology." That's a pretty wild statement -- and now Google has to deliver.

Google demos Chrome Web Store, rolling out later today to US (update: now live)

Image

It hasn't been that long since we first saw Google's web store -- mid-May, to be exact. An updated version is currently being showcased on stage at the Chrome event. The UI looks much more refined, and those who are itching to try some out yourself, it seems some of the web apps are already available, at least partially: NPR, The New York Times, Amazon Windowshop. If you ask us, they feel a lot like iPad apps for browsers and mice / keyboard. Audio can run in the background even if you move to another tab. There's offline mode, too. App purchases are tied to your Google account, naturally. There's some gaming, but from what we've seen so far ("you pop it!"), it's nothing you're gonna be focusing a lot of time on. Interesting note from the Q&A is that the apps, since they're built with "standard web technologies," will work with all compatible browsers.

Print From Any Device Using Google's Cloud Print

Image

Google's just realized their dream of putting printer drivers in the cloud, as their Cloud Print service has now gone into beta. This means that you can print from any device, whether it's a laptop, tablet or even cellphone, to any printer—theoretically. For now, their website says you need Windows 7, Vista or XP to be able to use Cloud Print.

Here's the deal. I wanna get an android phone for someone as a gift. I'm looking at the htc wildfire or the htc aria.
I'm doing some research since i don't know much about android phones.
They are both coming unlocked.
In doing researching on the web, most info i get says the aria is from at&t and that at&t has locked the option of installing 3rd party apps and only the market is available.
Can someone confirm that if i do get the factory unlocked aria, i should get the option to install 3rd party apps?
