scotland has some water turbine test projects under way. not wave technology, but current flow. think about it as wind tubrines underwater harnessing the ocean currents.

imo, that should be the major way to push to renewables. one turbine is like 1MW, and we use 180MW, if i remember correctly.
some could be installed in the bocas to harness tht continuous flow.
current turbines would be a more or less consistent continuous base line supply, with the balance made up by nat gas at night, solar in the day.

power storage is the biggest problem
the tesla power packs is the concept, i think, to move towards. individual house hold storage, dumping excess onto the grid.
obviously, interconnection needs to be standardized, so let ttec take custody of sourcing the inverter/tie in devices.
tesla power wall is an ideal design, but the time i checked out its pricing, i remember thinking it was vastly overpriced for the components it consists of. the people kinda paying for the brand name too.

if u enough adoption of onsite power storage, between solar and the bocas turbines, u could have enough to supply residential, commercial usage.

but again dedicated land area for solar is not the best usage for that land. the money u saving in not burning nat gas, the reduction in the food import bill will more than over shoot that.

I wish .

What I'm sure about is that WE better get this one correct.

Finding out A B or C eh working out for us after spending what ever...is not an option...

We need smart people to look at ALL the options and do what makes real long term sense.
No sacred cows and no agendas except what is our best option

How much do we spend on electricity ?

We spend 10M per day on gas and diesel.
We will need to add that to the electricity requirements.

If every household has 3 to 4 vehicles with 2 and more Ac units and no restrictions what do you really expect

I know Redman mentioned it a few time here already so felt this was the correct thread to put it in. This morning there was an announcement that Rolls Royce has received 210m Pounds sterling from the British govnt to conduct research and develop small modular reactors (SMRs). They also received a further 195m Pounds from the private sector.

RR anticipates one of its SMRs can produce 470MW which is equal to 1500 onshore wind turbines with the need for two football pitches worth of space.

470MW is just a bit more than the combined capacity of Powergen's Penal and Pt Lisas plants.

remove taxes from hybrids as well not just electric- electric still more expensive and most pl cant afford it

how about dont drive everyday? we learnt that remote work is possible for at least a certain portion of the population thanks to the pandemic. less cars on the road and those that are will have less traffic to face so even they burn less fuel.

Govt should lead by having WFH continue and provide incentives to the private sector to do the same. this is especially true for ppl who live far from work- if u living south and working POS why spend 2-3 hrs to and from work everyday burning fuel as if that's productive? for these persons a WFH policy could benefit both employer and employee. the morning hrs gained can go into working and the afternoon hrs gained is more time at home with family.

the solar options should be implemented but this goes hand in hand with using less energy to begin with- i don't know if centralized AC systems can have inverter technology but if so it can help reduce power consumption. of course turning it off at the end of the day or better yet putting that on a schedule will save a lot, as well as simple things like turning off lights and not having it on 24/7 and using CFLs or LEDs.

for homes incentivize ACs with inverters and tax those without. also remove all taxes from radiant barrier materials- this stops the heat before it even enters your home via the roof.

The world will use more energy going forward.

Developing nations use more power.

Are we not more dependent on electricity now than 5,10,15 years.

Redmanjp,

While these initiatives are noteworthy who will fund such,
It cannot solely be on the government, it must involve both private sector and government initiative for this to work. However, private sector are slave drivers and must see results and love to micromanage so that work from home will be limited on an only if necessary basis. Also the inverter conversions , inverters are more expensive than the typical units and no mention on tax reduction on those has been mentioned for years. It seems ppl just bite the bullet if they need to just to get inverters. Finally, we need a mass transit system and something to restrict persons from purchasing ICE vehicles, there are more vehicles than people in this country that is ridiculous, we had taxes removed on hybrids then we reinstated. Leaving the question do we have a clue what we doing?

We live in a nation full of armchair know-it-alls.Everything sounds good in theory and we want to do everything all at the same time. This is a change in mindset. It needs to start at the kindergarten level. In a couple generations down the road, the mindset will change.Start with government buildings and solar power them.Private sector buildings can also go solar with tax benefits. After that, offer the same for private citizens. The more solar power you switch to, match it with a tax break. This for the very least will reduce the load on electricity generation.Vehicles is another phase.
