I mentioned to someone in nat sec a couple years ago, about possibly forming a volunteer border protection program, where willing and suitable candidates could volunteer for a term of service, say 2 years, and be trained to handle such situations but not paid a salary (though they could receive a small stipend to cover travel and meals). Such personnel would then be assigned a sector of the border to patrol in shifts of say 2 days a week 4-6 hours/shift. Could even develop and run it in a manner similar to the VDF with a few tweaks.

Nothing thus far came out of that conversation, & I ain't surprised.

The 1% private army are mostly made up of TT ex forces personnel. Most of these were either fired, retired and left the forces. I know a few of them that ended up with them and they all ex forces.

TTPS did not reignite Community Comfort Patrols

Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, would like to clarify that neither he, nor the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), "reignited the Community Comfort Patrols (CCP)."

Responding to a headline in a daily newspaper today, “COP Griffith reignites 2014 CCP Initiative”, Commissioner Griffith says that this is totally inaccurate. He says the TTPS did not make such a request, nor does it have the authority and the funding for such a project.

The CoP says the initiative as announced yesterday whereby four private security companies will patrol certain neighbourhoods for the next month, was a policy drafted by the Government. “The TTPS carries out Government policy and we will make the best use of any policy to ensure that criminal elements do not use this period of the COVID-19 crisis to carry out their illegal acts.

“At the moment, the TTPS is responsible for carrying out the policy decisions made in the Regulations of the Public Health Ordinance to ensure that citizens adhere to what is necessary as we fight this invisible virus. Our officers are on the frontline as we ensure that there are no breaches to the regulations. As you would note, there was cause to arrest and charge three bar owners for operating their businesses despite the enforcement of the Regulations. Although there is a list of non-essential businesses, we are still seeing too many people on the roads, many of whom really have no business being out there.”
