A re-emergence of kidnappings is taking place in this country, National Security Minister Edmund Dillon has said.

Spike in murders after September 7

Does crime go up when the People’s National Movement (PNM) is in office?

In the days right after the September 7 general election, homicide rates spiked in both Trinidad and Tobago. Within the subsequent fortnight, more than 20 people were murdered, causing the 2015 homicide total to surpass last year’s for the first time.

some of allyuh fellas sick OUI...

Kidnapping and Kidnapping for Ransom are two different crimes.

Kidnapping for ransom remains low ,.. however Kidnapping has been a problem for probably like 10 years..
the forceful removal of a being from one point to another is kidnapping. Just saying.. when you play with the pups you get bitten by the fleas. some of the victims of kidnapping aren't all as they seem to be..Alot of human lives have dissapeared in Trinidad without a trace and this trend was always increasing.. Don't know why people are trying to blame pnm.. The same structures that UNC led PP are still in place... Same people.. So who aren't untop of their game ??
Really?? Did everyone stop working for election season> ?

Anybody pay attention to this ?
http://trinidadexpress.com/20150926/new ... ld-jewelry
ONE million dollars in gold jewelry was stolen from a family in Brasso Venado on Friday, police reports have said.

Two members of the family were beaten, and other valuables, including a vehicle, were stolen.

The white Toyota Fielder wagon valued at $80,000 was later found by police, abandoned in a road off Telamaque Road, Flanagin Town.

Police reports are that around 6.50 a.m., the victims, caterer Oma- tee Ramoutar, 64; driver Anthony Sonny, 25; Reyan Ramoutar, 45; and Adrian Ramoutar, 11, were at their home in Brasso Venado when five masked men, clad in black long-sleeved jerseys, black pants and gloves, and armed with cutlasses, entered their home and announced a hold-up. Omatee Ramoutar and Sonny were dealt several blows.

I'd say a lot of the murders/kidnappings etc that happening is people, who had dubious sources of income. getting offed by their rivals now that they no longer have political protection.

dude what PNM have to do with crime... You went realise since mid 80s we have had a rise in crime. Don't get fooled by the statistics .. unc didn't do much for crime either. The fact is world crime rates have been rising steadily for a long time and crime has much to do with classism. Anyone who encourages some to rise and others to fall will for sure feel the pinch. you could say its race.. but classism carries consequences. Anyone who encourages classism doomed to reap the consequences. #realtalk

A lot of times when people are robbed, they always tend to over-inflate the worth of the items lost.

That said, there is no data to support kidnappings nor kidnappings for ransom have increased.

However, the is currently a spike in murders. The question Kevin Baldeosingh has raised in that article is whether this phenomenon is due to PNM winning the election.

Very hard to say, but once cannot disagree with the following angle (Taken from another forum):

Given that PNM is perceived to represent black people in Trinidad and Tobago, there is a belief that PNM will more lenient or tolerating of black misbehavior. This is true, whether we like to admit it or not. The 'we time now' mindset is prevalent in both majority races in Trinidad. As a black man who supported PP (and still does), I've witnessed this attitude in many indians. Especially when it came to bending the rules to get things their way.

The difference we're seeing now is a reflection of the indian culture vs black culture. This is a defintely another debate for another time, but regardless, indians turn to education and business to earn a living. Blacks turn to government or seek more glamorous methods such as art, music and gangs.

Obviously, given the nature of the black population in Trinidad, when it is 'we time now', there will be more an increase in the callousness and boldface nature of their crime.

Why are indian-trinis concerned? Because, while many view the indo crime targets are seen as 'bad seeds' who are now reaping what they sowed, many (and I do so many) are unfairly targeted and harnessed.

This is why, the simple act of PP/UNC being in power reduces crime.

You really think criminals have time with who in power ? like really ?
It is not a political party's responsibility to fix crime that's the police responsibility, it is however the government responsibility to ensure that the police have the resources and man power etc to do their jobs..

Unfortunately for you there was a spike in murders right after the PP was elected in 2010.

In 2010, the month of June recorded the highest number of murders—55, with April following closely with 54 murders. The month with the smallest number of murders, but still substantial, at 25, was September.

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/201 ... 60004.html

I suspect changes of govt cause a rise in murders, as the criminal elements associated with the new govt take out the criminal elements associated with the old regime.

So which is it?

IS it that the supporters of the New government as a celebratory gesture have gone on a criminal SPREE ?

or

HAve the past government supporters gone on a SOUR, lets blame it on the new government Crime SPREE ?

Or

Are we seeing the casualties of the War between the previous criminals and the new criminals that support different Parties?

Perhaps the minister of national security knows something we don't which is why he made this statement that kidnappings are back?

I don't think he would do something like this so reckless and tarnish the PNM's image just for the heck of it.
