Day two of 2014 and there have been five murders recorded. Last two murders a double murder in south Trinidad. Details remain sketchy at this time but C News understands that the bodies of Omardath Deokinanan and his wife Sharon Bahadur were found last night at Cemetery Street in Bonasse Village in Barrackpore.

Deokienanan was found with his hands bound behind his back and had a number of chop wounds about his body. While his wife's body was found a short distance away also with chop wounds. It is believed the couple were on their way home from a family gathering, when they were carjacked by their killers. Deokienanan's white Nissan b-14 was found crashed a short distance away from the murder scene.

In Arima around 8:30 last night 31 year old Francis Bernard was killed in Wallerfield. According to reports he received a phone call asking him to come outside he was shot when he exited his house.

The first murder for 2014 occurred at about 2:45 on New Year’s Day. According to police, occupants of an apartment building at #2 Mausica Road in D'abadie heard several loud explosions and upon checking they saw two men lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. The men were later identified as 52 year old pastor Casimir Khan and his 18 year old son Ezra.

The two were said to be returning home after midnight services when they were shot. Casimir Khan died on the spot while his son was rushed to hospital. He is being treated for gunshot wounds to the face and neck. A motive is still to be determined for the shooting incident. The first murder on the sister isle has also been recorded. Information reaching our news center indicate that 54 year old Curtis Lovelace was stabbed to death last evening at his Bacolet home.

Trinidad and Tobago recorded six murders on the first day of the year on Wednesday, making it one of the bloodiest beginnings ever.

On Monday morning, Pastor Casimir Khan was shot dead during a robbery at his home in Arima. His son, 19-year-old Ezra Khan, was also shot in the face, is being treated at hospital. This was followed by the stabbing death, in Bacolet, Tobago, of 54-year-old Curtis Lovelace. A suspect is in custody.

A mentally challenged man, Leroy Haynes, 65 was beaten about the body by a 25-year-old man who later torched the body at Waterhole in Cocorite on Wednesday morning. A suspect has been arrested by the police.

At Wallerfield, Francis, Bernard, 31, was shot dead at around 8.30p.m., near his home at Agua Santa Road. The motive behind the killing of Bernard, the father of a four-year-old girl, is unknown. Police said he spent a year in prison and was released recently.

At Borde Narve Village south of Princes Town, police found a couple dead near their home. Omardath Deokienanan and wife Sharon Bahadoor had spent New Year's Day with family and returned home that night. Police believe they were attacked and killed by two men who stole Deokienanan's car, a white Nissan b-14. The vehicle crashed a short distance from the home and was abandoned. Police were called and found Deokienanan, hand tied behind his back, at the back of his home. Bahadoor, her mouth sealed with duct tape, was found in a cane field about 50 metres from the home. Both were stabbed and chopped to death.
None of the killings are considered gang-related.

Even New York City, with 10 million people, had fewer murders (333) in 2013 than Trinidad and Tobago (405 plus).

Not forgetting a Police Commissioner who forecasted what the 2013 murder rate would be.
