how about price controls on basic commodities like food? taking away VAT only worked for some places but other supermarkets just increase dey profit margin- but if u implement price controls on retail prices of lets say- rice, meats & peas/beans at least that would keep ppl grocery bill down

If price controls are enacted the only result will be shortages.

Do you really want this?

On an interview carried on CNC3 tonight, Minister Howai said that there will be no increase in fuel prices, since he is not satisfied with the roll out of the CNG plan.

before the bi-election loss to ILP, the intention was to increase fuel prices. They wont dare touch in while in office again. If some magic gives them a second term however...problems.

I suspect that whomsoever gets into office after the next General Elections will continue the subsidy removal. The only exception may be the ILP. As a new party, it's uncertain whether or not they'll be willing to risk alienating an expectant electorate so early in their tenure.

With regard to the Property Tax, the PP Government campaigned heavily against the PNM's reform of the system. As I recall, they were to reinstate the old system. Now we're getting reports that the "current valuations" (i.e. done under the PNM) will be used and they're looking at reintroducing the tax on "phased basis". Exactly how this will work is anybody's guess until the budget is read but I'll tell you this. If they bring back the PNM's plan, that act of insincerity will be the end of them.

I see some people cant pick up sarcasm.

Not even going to let this go where you want it to go.

Last few budgets they have been increasing taxes on vices ie smokes, alco and gambling.

This year they gauging their squandering / pocket lining at the expense of raping consumers at the fuel pumps. Things didnt go as planned with the birth of the ILP so they have to find another means of filling the gap.

Property tax back and cater to pay more for your precious WO. As far as I concerned, tax it by a 1000%. NA, not an alcoholic.

edit:

Last few increases under the PNM rule they say (on this very same forum) Manning taking out his frustration with his son on the population, how he jinks, smokes and gambles heavily.
When tax increase under a non Patrick Manning rule I want to hear if Brian frustrating Kams too. :drinking:

More deficit budgeting essentially. Plenty "goodies" for local government. Gate will remain. It shouldn't be removed in any case. Just modified and managed properly.

Real Estate valuators gonna have a field day.

finance minister promised to repay deficit spending over a 4 year period. he now has 2 years to recoup the deficit spending from this, the 2nd year in a row.

we must seek to get this government out NOW. we cannot wait till elections.

they are just using deficits to pad their colleagues and contractor buddies pockets. they are raping the treasury. it is intentional and played under the guise of innocence.

my predictions for our country after a budget that i obviously have not heard yet.

price of food is going up
price of transport and public transport is going to go up within a couple weeks from today
price of rent for many is going up, before the property tax is even enstated and then again when it is

salaries will stay the same.

p.s. - also will not be surprised if government and opposition both find money in there to give themselves thousands of dollars each per month in pay raises "fk u peasant beetches"
