Anyone else think Jack look for exactly what he got by resigning as a Member of Parliament? The calls were for him to resign as Minister of Nat'l Sec, but no-one asked for him to resign as MP, not even the PNM/OWTU.

Neither the Prime Minister nor the President have the power to fire an elected Member of Parliament. The Constitution allows for the seat to be declared vacant if the MP is convicted of a criminal offence (Basdeo Panday, 2006) or dies whille in office (Morris Marshall, 1994).

Why did he resign?

^ Steupes. If that's the reason then why seek re-election when the matter is still unresolved. He could have remained as a backbencher until all those "investigations" blow over, then make his triumphant return as the Saviour.

Why put the UNC in a position to either reject u or endorse u while u are the subject of several criminal investigations? Given the precedent set in the firing of Mary King, Baptiste Cornellus and Colin Partap, they had no choice but to reject Jack as a candidate.

Has something to do with the constitution, where he had to resign as MOP, to allow him to contest the Chaguanas-West by-election, in 90 days from his resignation.

If he did not resign, there would be no need for a bye-election. He would have still been the MP.

The UNC and its Cabal on a whole is a failure. Any move to get rid of them would be a good move. On both sides (PNM before and UNC/PP now) all we see was corruption, greed and bachannal one after the next while the country slowly slid down into a country of ppl drowing in honey.

All the mud and grease on Jacks face, he was still the one in MOWT to get things moving, roads paved, bridges repaired, landslips done 90% properly. In the MNS i would say he didnt have enough time to do anything.

I would support Jack over all other choices we have right now. I much rather risk the vast uncertaintity of the future with JW than a garunteed rubbish governance from the PP or PNM.

Volney: I’ll join any party with Warner

By Sasha Harrinanan Wednesday, July 3 2013

St Joseph MP Herbert Volney says if Jack Warner forms a new political party, he “would be the first in line to join.”

Speaking to Newsday yesterday, Volney said his former Cabinet colleague, who plans to seek re- election in the Chaguanas West bye-election on July 29, having resigned as MP in May, “has brought a sense of hope to the disillusioned (electorate) in this country.” He approves of Warner’s choice of green as his campaign colour. “Mr Warner chose a very auspicious colour. Green is the colour of hope and peace, so I don’t think he would have picked and given us hope if he wasn’t serious about starting his own political party.” Volney has already spoken with Warner about his intentions, but was told to “wait until Friday.” Hence Volney’s intention to “be in the crowd” when Warner is set to reveal if he will indeed form a new political party or run as an independent candidate.

Speaking about his own disillusionment with the People’s Partnership (PP), Volney lamented “after such a positive start, the Government has lost its way at mid-term. I expect some losses for the PP in Local Government elections and if they don’t find their way back to good governance, they will lose the general election.”He said people no longer trust the PP but they don’t want to see the PNM (People’s National Movement) back in office.

He told Newsday this was why he would be the first person to join Warner’s political party, if Warner choose to go that route.

Volney expects at least three other MPs, “all UNC members”, would join Warner. According to the former Justice Minister, Warner’s party could become a bonafide contender in the 2015 general elections if he lays the groundwork in the “large swing vote area” of Trinidad’s east-west corridor.

“The west is hard core PNM while parts of central and south are UNC. The COP (Congress of the People) is dead as far as I’m concerned(LOL) So if Mr Warner does as I think he will and forms a ‘green’ party, it would provide a viable option over the PNM and UNC in 2015,” Volney stated.

Jack has toured the world and has seen a lot of first world infrastructure, policies, systems and procedures.
I'm sure he'll do a lot better than Kams and Rowley.
