But how many 'souped up cars' actually are involved in accidents. Last time i checked it was almost always drunken Almera and corolla drivers... unless the all installed an essarrrtwenny before going out to cause mayhem.

Rice soup? Yes by law the transport commisioners has the power to seize a car. What sharma is aying is he is gonna enforce the law that states you must get permission from licence office before you kodify the drivetrain of your car. This seems a bit draconian in a democracy and actually the logistics of licencing office handling this seems hard. But he has a good point. However the legit hobbyists out there may suffer. Some good training for the enforcers of this law is needed. Yes you can target those who install a big engine but did not upgrade their braking and even those who install a loud exhaust. Somehow i think this was just sharma sending out a warning. Dont think it will actually materialise.

This take long to reach 2NR.

Enforce/revise the laws that already exist before you go suggesting to create new legislation.

Car inspections
Road speed
Cellphone and driving (this one is crap but more of that anither time)
Drinking and driving

Would love to see how they consult with the public if this ever materialises.

imho

they should leave the "souped up" vehicles alone.... at least for the while...

and remove all them old rusty cars with 4 different tyre (smooth as well as different thread/size), with buss up windscreen, no rearview mirror, 3 different colour, overloaded cars and trucks with the tray bend and hanging to one side, and running down the highway with no insurance (cuz i really dont see how some of these vehicles can be insured) :?

and start eliminating those...
those mentioned above, though not probably directly involved are usually the catalyst for a bad drive which leads to an accident....

when the achieve the goal of making ALL the good condition vehicles road-worthy...
they could target the soup/rice/dhal/etc....

So when a man install a external dump on his Evo9 he just might have it confriscated while the drunk almera/ b14 driver continues to reduce the number of T&TEC poles in the country.

hmmmmmm

ELEVEN youths, including two sons of a Member of Parliament, were injured when a car illegally drag racing ploughed into a group of persons in San Fernando early yesterday morning.

According to police reports, the crash occurred around 1am while a group of almost 100 spectators crowded the pavements along the Rienzi Kirton Highway and Cipero Street. Reports said a 19-year-old was driving a silver-grey Honda Civic when he lost control at the traffic light intersection near Skinner Park, where he ploughed into the spectators. Of the eleven injured, the most critically injured was Arun Ramdeen, 14, who was with UNC MP Chandresh Sharma’s two sons, Moonish, 13, and Devaan, ten, watching the racing.

Well..... considering how "strict" licensing regulations are and how well they're enforced, there's probably nothing to worry about.

If men licensing PCY Advans that clearly older than 5 years normel, whas the concern? People does buy license down here or sometimes the license officer does give women a bligh depending on how sad they look when they fail.

No worries.... carry on

Mr. Chandresh Sharma wrote:There are many inconsistencies in the licensing standards and vehicle
inspection. For instance, some foreign-used vehicles come installed with fog
lamps. You go to the licensing office, you meet the requirements; the person sells
the vehicle; first it has to pass the customs and the Bureau of Standards; the
vehicle is now sold to citizen A; he goes to the licensing office, obtains a licence
plate; so the vehicle is legally on the road. He pays his insurance; the vehicle
meets the insurance requirements; there is a licensed driver; then the police stop him
and say: See those two fog lamps; they are illegal; you are going to be charged.

The person says: Listen, this car is PCK; I purchased it a couple months ago; it
came from Singapore; I paid all the taxes; it met the licensing requirements; how
can you charge me? He says: The Licensing Authority is totally different from us.
Fog lamps are illegal. You have to decide what it is.

These fog lamps are installed for safety measures; to improve and increase the
lighting on the road. The Government and police officers argue that this is
decorative; it is not part of the vehicle. That is inconsistent.

In the same way, there is no scientific measure of the tint, so the police officer
wearing glasses says: Listen! I am wearing glasses; I can see well. This fails.
Down the road, another officer says: I am not wearing glasses; I can see well too.
This is okay. It is inconsistent. This cannot be so.

^^^what so wrong, fog lights are lower mounted lights to prevent the light bouncing back into eyes as does headlights in thick fog conditions.

nothing wrong with properly adjusted fogs, imo
but when you have kangkalangs who drive with headlights off and factory fogs on, and then tell you they get good visibility, you have to wonder
All this talk of modified cars would be irrelevant if they would just properly enforce the speed limit

Or even, how does Licensing Office approve of Christmas tree Hilux with blue lights on the hood scoop and by the fog lights?

Never said no one does 80 I do it a lot of the time but should I get charged for doing 100 on open highway? You wouldn't believe the number of cars or vans that pass you like you as if you are at a stand still even when doing 100, you saying I should get charged the same as the dude doing 130?
