the way i see it:

1. the contract clauses are indeed dotish

2. fay-ann probably didn't haev a good chance at winning power anyway

3. if she had stayed it woulf cannibalise super blue's votes, who btw i hear munro real promoting these days

4. which begs the question - why bunji drop out? i guess it's all or nothing. he chose nothing.

personally if i was bunji i woulda give super blue the bligh (machel's power soca rendition is crap this year, [throws on flame suit]) and enter groovy to KILL machel.

oh well...adni was so lookign foward to seeing a cow on stage..

Paying tax on the winnings you could end up out of pocket about 20% ($400,000 or so.) Funny thing is that the government sponsors the prize money.

if this contract were the same as last years, then kes wouldve only won 50k and had to give back 950k

doesnt matter if fay ann wouldve won or not, nice to see em taking a stand.

What I would like to know is how does CPF benefit in this whole thing. What do they charge or how do they make money?

Seeing Govn't funds a lot of the prizes is it fair one man/organization exclusively hold the hosting rights? Same goes for George Singh and Southex.

agreed leads to suggest there has been a change in the contract, most of these artistes only money is carnival, so some rather sell themselves short if they agree to terms that others don't

BTW this event is HEAVILY sponsored by Govt and the business community.

Why does the government even need to sponsor this event to the tune of millions?

This competition has been around since the 90s. What happens to all the money CPF gets from gate receipts, tv rights, corporate sponsorships and concession revenue? In a free market system without government intervention, the revenues that CPF is able to generate would determine the prize money rather than relying on the government.

Government revenue is to be used for projects that benefit the entire population, not for giving millions to the same soca artistes every year.

is Soca Monarch a privately produced event (by CPF) with extensive outside sponsors
added with govt prize money ?
why does he not just give the prize as 95% to make it simple ?

When one hears Munro talk, it is as though he own the Friday and it is his gift to the world

He won the year before and he competed last year.

I mean.. It's like common courtesy that the reigning monarch will compete in the competition. Should not really have to be contractually obligated to do it and a huge penalty like that for not competing to me is a real insult to the entertainers.

Read that the contestants cannot perform anywhere else on the night, is that true?
