Any guys interested in purchasing this grass? I am renovating my back lawn, and all the grass will be gone. About 1000 sq ft. Could be less. The contractor already cut 2' sq blocks to clear his immediate work area. It was too time consuming for him, so the rest will be destroyed if I cant get it out. Offering it for $20 a sq ft....highly negotiable and you need to take the rest out yourself and provide your own labour and transport. Located in Trincity area. This needs to be done asap, as I dont have an area to store it either.

Reviving an old thread.

Bermuda grass is balls. Not growing in any area even remotely shady. Only in direct sunlight. Gonna eradicate that.

Maybe good ole savannah grass. Weeds are also a big issue as i have neighbours with bush so bush seeds abound.

Suggestions? Should i spring for zoysia?

I am having good success with Common Bermuda Grass that I grew from seeds. It needs about 4 hours of direct sunlight to grow so some degree of shade is not an issue. For weeds, you need to keep at it constantly using pre-emergent treatments, weedicides that do not harm lawns and some good ole hand pulling. I have been able to successfully eradicated crabgrass from the lawn areas I am working on. I selected Common Bermuda Grass since it establishes rapidly, does not need to much fertilizer and requires little water (about 1-2 inches weekly in the dry season). Here are some pictures of the progress.

To get to my current state, treatments had to be done at least fortnightly with the selective weedicide. If you fail to keep at it, weeds such as crabgrass will grow faster than the grass and overtake your lawn. The weedicide stunts the growth and then slowly kills it. Like you, I have neighbours on both sides with more bush and weeds so regular treatments are a must. Pre-emergent use is a must in this case to prevent those seeds from germinating. Good luck.

^That's why i'm thinking of just going with fake turf, for the problem portion of lawn to the back of my house. We are way too busy to be micro-managing the frickin' lawn. Anyone locally has gone the fake turf route with good results?

getting away from grass for a bit, where would I find decorative stones like/ similar to this in central or south?

I can find the regular white ones from National Quarries, but I am looking for something different.
I believe Moyogi and maybe even East of Eden might have, but I would rather get it from somewhere closer.

If its for close to plants, be mindful of the heat associated with black stone in sun.

Nah, it's not for plants. I have a small pathway and i'd like to use something like that.

my neighbor went that route with his back yard, fake turf looks great, I've seen no discoloration during this harsh dry season

Bermuda is one of the best grasses to grow in this climate. Pre-emergent herbicides are key for smaller lawns. Fertilizer should be used about once a month (depending on application rate). Compacted soil should be aerated and then top dressed with common sand. If Bermuda is not in a well-drained soil bed, it will bog and the roots will die. That is a common problem in this area. The best herbicide for Bermuda is MSMA (Monosodium methyl arsenate). MSMA, if properly applied, will kill everything but the Bermuda.

Bumping this old thread. Sorry.

Anyone know where I can get Zoysia cheap or free.

Also should I mix them with seeds to make it more full?

Where can you get zoysia seeds locally? I usually only see the Scotts Bermuda grass in stores.

If I may be bold enough to say….its not available locally. I’ve searched. Seems Bermuda is the primary one available. And only in small quantities.

However if you have better luck than me, please bump or pm me.

Figured as much.

Any recommendations for a weedicide to control crabgrass in zoysia? I've been battling with that and wild bhagi. Amine works for the bhagi but I haven't had much progress with the crabgrass besides hand pulling.

Hand pulling is really best. But Basagran is a great postemergence herbicide. I’ve used it with much success.

Update

Crabgrass and nut grass virtually wiped out with Basagran and Prowl.

What can I use to eliminate dove weed? Basagran didn't do it much damage.

What is available locally to control mole crickets? I saw someone earlier in the thread recommended “talstar”. Is this still available locally?

Thanks.

you can use a “regular” cheap insecticide like malathion(smelly) or diazinon
spray the ground and water a bit for it to soak in
