THIS

especially its something a lot people look foward to, every year for the past 44 years, a television coverage shouldnt be hard to muster just a little expensive but there would be gain in interest in the sport amongst the greater population.

This event always seems to just go "flat" on the day.
There was a time when television coverage took place and this certainly created interest.
Unfortunately we now have to depend on radio and tuner.
I look forward to photos/video posts from tuners to get a feel for what transpired.

pity the GPS feed isn't available to the public via webpage, or is it?
Since no tv, that's a definitive way of knowing what's going on.

i agree... its 2012 not 1988 live coverage of an event is mundane nowadays

Couldn't agree more. Man trimming in and holdng throttle because they worried about breaking the speed limit.

Having listened to great race commentary for the past 22 years I have to say that this year was an all time low.

Very very poor

Congrats to stinging metal. Alan had the boat dialled in. Runs very well

What was the reasons for so much breakdown/problems on race day though, I find quite a bit of boats had problems this time

sheit happens. Having raced between 1995 and 1998 I can tell you sometimes a $5 dollar part is the one that lets you down or leads to a bigger failure.

By and large though sheit in the water other damages the boat or fouls up water intakes leading to an overheat.

Great race is a serious pressure on boats.

Also look at the amount of inboard failures compared to outboard.

Year after year it's always the same problem with garbage getting into the water intakes causing an overheat.. how feasible is it to have radiators cooling the engines? I know they are making a lot of power and therefore need a LOT of cooling especially on a "long" race like this but a 180mph boat running at 130mph isn't running at full power. Would the stresses involved with a hard landing be enough to damage the radiator?

I must be very critical of the commentary on this event. With ONLY 105FM as the media that all who were interested in this event, were being forced to listen to, at times I actually found it very annoying on what was being fed to the listening public.

This is supposed to be a RACE, a GREAT Race, and the listener was at pains to find out who was “winning”, which is what a RACE is supposed to be about.

Sure we all understood the system in place as far as classes and not going beyond a “breakout” speed, but at least give us the facts as to who was leading in each class. What we got was a lot of information, old talk, and minimal info. on who was “winning” in the classes. Only in the end we were hearing that if Solo finishes, he may win his class even though he was hobbling along.

After the tremendous build-up and hype in the weeks leading up to this Event, it just was sad the way it fizzled out. Hope this is taken as constructive criticism, that may lead to the powers that be taking a serious look at where they really want to go in the future.

In the end, congrats to all the winners and those who survived the unclean waters they traversed.

The great race is the longest offshore race in the world. The kind of abuse and pounding those boats & crew take is unbelievable. I think it takes mostly luck to finish the race in one piece

I'm surprise the big boats aren't using EFI. I would think that EFI would give better throttle response than a carburetor :?

Congrats to Fireone team! Would have liked to see Solo, Paramount and Fireone battle it out into Scarborough though. Hopefully next year.
