Head of the Port of Spain Division, Snr Supt Lennox O'Garro, has said he is not aware of allegations of a possible cover-up by the police of an incident where a Minister's vehicle struck a woman on Carnival Monday.
The victim, Marlene Williams, 36, of San Juan, on Wednesday expressed concern regarding information she said she received from police officers that there was an apparent cover-up in the matter.
Williams, 36, of Quarry Road, sustained a fractured foot after the Minister's SUV allegedly rolled over her foot while she was walking along Maraval Road on Carnival Monday.
She also claimed that the Minister refused to stop and was chased by a motorcycle policeman who had apparently witnessed what had transpired.
Williams also claimed that the Minister appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The Minister has not responded to BlackBerry Messenger messages, text messages and calls to his cellphone since on Wednesday for a response to the allegations and the accident.
In confirming that he was aware of the incident, O'Garro said Cpl Robert Walker, the investigator, visited Williams at her home and took a statement from her and he also interviewed the Minister on the incident.
He said it was the first time he had heard of allegations of a cover-up but assured that the matter is being thoroughly investigated to determine what actually transpired.
The Minister was allowed to leave with his vehicle by police shortly after a report was lodged. He had first reported the incident to the Woodbrook police who subsequently transferred the report to the St Clair police.
Sources close to Walker said he is under tremendous pressure because he was constantly receiving phone calls from senior police officers seeking updates on the investigation.

A day after the police had to come forward and dispel public notion that there is a cover-up (much like they sought to assure us that the anti-gang bill would bring convictions, the threat against the PM was real, and the SoE worked)
And today rather than face charges, it appears that money talks as the victim seems to lack any principle.
To those who want to paint me or anyone else who dutifully would wants to hold MY gov't responsible for their actions as a PNM then hand me a baliser and a red T-shirt and I will gladly wave it. But for those of you who are weekly seeing your utopic gov't making tiny mistakes not worthy of all this press recognition, take up your argument press.
free speech, deal with it

George: Woman fakes accident
'She ran and threw herself on the hood'
PUBLIC Utilities Minister Emmanuel George said yesterday he was involved in an "incident" in which a woman ran into his Porsche Cayenne vehicle and fell to the ground, pretending to be unconscious.
He refuted earlier unconfirmed reports the vehicle operated by his driver had hit a woman who was crossing the Priority Bus Route near the Port of Spain Abattoir around 3 p.m. on Friday.
"Totally untrue, totally untrue," he said as he spoke to the Sunday Express.
He explained that around 3 p.m. he was being driven to Port of Spain and stopped behind a truck on the westbound lane of the Priority Bus Route.
He said the truck driver had stopped and was talking to a woman who moments earlier had stepped in front the vehicle.
George said when the woman saw him, she stopped arguing with the man, ran towards his Porsche and threw herself on the hood of the SUV, following which she slid off and pretended to be unconscious.
She was not, George said. "She was not even injured," he said.
"I was told that the woman living Sea Lots and she is accustomed to doing this because, according to the police, this is not the first time she has done something like this," he said.
He said the woman did not have to go to the hospital because she was not injured. "Listen. This was not an accident, this was an incident," he said.
The report at the Besson Street Police Station mirrored that of George's recollection of the event.
Police said that the woman was "well known to them". —Gyasi Gonzales
