Pirate Bay Wants to Send Servers into Low Orbit with Drones

The Pirate Bay has had a pretty rough few years. If the founders aren't fighting law suits, the company is hearing whisperings about yet another raid that is supposedly in the works. The company has already gone to great lengths to keep the site safe from censorship, but this past weekend, the Pirate Bay revealed that it's currently investigating another method of server security.

In a blog post titled TBP LOSS, the file sharing site explained that they're constantly trying to optimize the 'front machines' that redirect traffic to a secret location. Now, thanks to the development of GPS-controlled drones, tiny computers like Raspberry Pi, and cost-effective long-range radio equipment, the site is going to start experimenting with drones called Low Orbit Server Stations (LOSS).

"We're going to experiment with sending out some small drones that will float some kilometers up in the air. This way our machines will have to be shut down with aeroplanes in order to shut down the system. A real act of war," the site said.

The Pirate Bay crew said that while they haven't quite got it all figured out just yet, they can't limit themselves to hosting on land anymore. Right now, they're just aiming to build a proxy system, but they definitely don't plan on stopping at that..

Interesting interview, they actually gave companies direct access to delete illegal files.
