It comes in a pack of 2 for $150 ($75 per flashlight). It runs on 3AAA batteries, but what really impressed me was that it came with a CREE Q3 led. This fugging thing bright no ass! Definately worth the $75, and you can use it in candle mode. A soft click on the tailcap switch lets you select between a low and a high mode.

Did not know it had candle mode... sweet !
Going to buy a set next week

batteries are available for free quite easily....just ask anybody for a dead laptop battery
you need to get a li-ion charger though

the pricesmart lights are nice, but they have a flaw in that the switch is not mechanically off when switched off, it still pulls a tiny amount of current which drains the battery.

yunno i drove a "bug eyed sprite" once,, and the gearbox did that same thing

I tried taping a sprite to the bonnet for extra lights but I ended up with quad no-lights instead

Can the experts here help me choose ah torch light.

i owned a 3 cell maglite which worked well enough. i don't think a tactical light is what i need but the size and weight of the previous maglite was an issue sometimes. if its an option within a reasonable price range i would consider it.long story short i broke my maglite and need a replacement.

i need it for strict outdoor use - hiking, camping, hunting, back packing and basically everything rough and tumble.

i don't have a particular price range as i really not aware the prices these go for now but i was thinking approx $300.

exploring all options purchasing both locally and online.suggestions please :D

get the pricesmart ones,
they have decent led's in them.
you can replace the switch with a regular clicky switch and avoid the battery drain issue.
i did mine this weekend, used a switch from one of the cheap 9led lights

On a serious note...i find halogen/filament bulbs so old tech...LED has come a long way...especially the CREE and other technology

Burns less batteries too

Don't have to worry about the bulb burning out

All my maglites have failed badly

Maglites have durability i left batteries in one and had to soak it with vinegar and use a drill press to get them out , coupled with some severe pounding on metal and concrete to extract the swollen and exploded batteries , a little emery and leave it to dry , put in some new batteries and a small spray with wd and we have a beam again.

I was in the market for a small torch and came across a life gear and all I can say is it seems as durable with similar water prof aircraft aluminum but a 3 aaa powered led light is way brighter than the 2 d cell maglite . The life gear is a few hundred lumen s . I am looking for a bigger one. Led torches are the way to go

i thought of that but how does the headlamp compare to the hand light.
price, performance, batteries etc.

then again it would be more weight when hiking and trust me all those little things add up.

for nearfield lighting you cannot get more versatile than a headlamp.
I always try to get gear that uses AA batteries. about handlight vs headlight...Different horses for different courses.
handlight = look for less spill, look for one with a great "throw". This is normally your backup light
headlight = you need a lot of spill, and look for neutral white led, easier on the eye. This is normally your main light

its better to start switching to modern li-ion rechargeables like 18650
they have 2-3 times the capacity of aa,aaa
low self discharge and hardly ever leak

How exactly did you take apart the pricemart one? The actual pricemart switch, when taken apart, looks nothing like the pics you posted:

As you can see, there is a white plastic bushing that is solidly pressed into place, no matter how forcibly I tried to prise it out using the notch on the side.

good question, it is probably a press fit in this case, you may have to push it out with a screwdriver
the 9led one was like that, I didnt want to risk damaging the switch so I cut it with a hacksaw

maybe it is not worth the risk to damage it.
