Working as a Bank Teller

Postby AlphaMan » July 15th, 2022, 9:55 pm

What are the requirements to become a bank teller and what is the salary like?
Does it matter if you are a science or business graduate?
Asking for a fellow tuner

I find it odd that bandits know exactly who to follow from the bank.

Probably psychic.

^^

Bank Teller is a very demanding job - especially in balancing your accounts each day .

Banks do not pay much and the benefits are not that great . You pay for everything .

However it's fairly stable once you apply yourself and you can move up through the ranks with dedication.

As long as you have a degree and pass the very simple exams - you will be accepted .

Work facilities are excellent and the environment is conservative.

You need a minimum of 5 O levels with grades 1 or 2 or A and B accepted only. Some of them require a CoC, a psychometric test and your typical interview. You must have 2 forms of valid ID and a utility bill to prove your address. If the utility bill is not on your name and you reside there (usually a parent/guardian situation) then a letter must be prepared by said parent/guardian indicating that you live there. Letter must be signed by parent/guardian.

Once you have those docs, it still doesn't mean you're getting a call for an interview though.

Let's just say you do get the interview, go through the process and humble yourself. Listen more and speak less. You will be placed in a training programme. You will be taught cash, custody, lockup procedure, safety, security and customer service procedures etc. You will also be formally taught compliance and governance protocols especially from the CBTT and FIU.

You will have a myriad of policies to abide by where as an employee you must follow a code of ethics both on duty and off duty. You will not be able to bid on properties/vehicles that have been repossessed by the bank and you will not be able to trade shares or invest in IPO's etc. It depends on the policy or period etc.

If you are up for this, you will have a rewarding career in the banking fraternity. Stick with it and be the best you can be.

I promise you this: If you start as a teller at the age of 21 armed with your O and A levels as well as an undergrad degree, and you consistently perform well enough by not just meeting expectations but exceeding expectations in your yearly performance appraisal, you will become a middle management officer in 10 years.

Sounds long? That's by an age of 31! Before you reach 37, you can be a Senior Manager and in your 40s, you are well on your way towards executive leadership.

If such a career appeals to anyone lurking around in this forum, I say to you, go for it. Forget the name of the bank, just go for it.

By the time you reach my age, you would have already acquired and paid off for your nice family SUV and enjoying your first house/condo to raise your family in.

All the very best.

According to the University of Google:

What do psychometric tests measure?

Psychometric tests measure both cognitive ability and mental agility. Different tests evaluate specific skills, such as comprehension, arithmetic ability or a candidate's approach and attitude. They commonly focus less upon knowledge and more on problem-solving ability and accuracy under pressure.
The tests are designed to reveal if prospective candidates have the traits sought for the job role in question. They allow employers to judge how a candidate will handle routine tasks, interact with co-workers and cope in stressful situations. The measurements provided by psychometric tests are considered to give a strong indication of a candidate's potential to excel.

I know for a fact that certain banks used to hire from modelling agencies. Not sure how the interviews would have gone, but I can guess.
As for the legit hiring process, they will do a complete background check of new hires now,up to the point of sending someone to verify your address.I know at least 3 banks that doing this now. This is why you will not see venes in banks as yet.You cannot background check them.Other than the service industry,I feel this should be standing hiring procedure this rounds with the amount of fraudsters around, whether locals or foreigners.Coc should be standard, even to small businesses,in a two fold way.One is background check, the other is , that upon doing a coc, that person is now known to the police in case of any wrongdoing.

Be prepared to answer situational questions about dealing with irate customers and being asked to do things such as checking other peoples' accounts without authorisation.
