Just re-read The Hobbit, seemed shorter this time than before - not sure why

must have gotten accustomed to reading long ramblings like Unfinished Tales and Lays of Beleriand which most of the time is very abstract

Would have liked to see Del Torro's creatures given his eyes for detail (Imagine how he would have brought out Smaug) however Jackson's thought and flow would be much better based on how he translated LOTR from book to movie.

Really looking forward to this.

Tru dat!

Just was really impressed by Del Torro's vision and level of detail in Pan's labyrinth and Hell boy 2. However based on what we have seen so far from the trailers this is movie is gonna be bigger than Beorn :lol:

I just hope that we don't have to wait another whole year for part 2

I hope they do it like the Watchowski Bros and drop them a few months apart

For real. That 1 year wait between LOTR 1,2 and 3 seemed so long.

Its just amazing how much time and effort has to be put in to pull off a movie. The locations, the gear, the travelling, the packing up, moving about, catering etc etc...

the all time greatest story by J. R. R. Tolkien has to be Children of Hurin, set in age long before Lord of the Rings.

Image

Hope they eventually make a movie based on this.

truth is there are so many stories that can come out of the silmarillion yet....the stories can be interpolated if the tolkien estate would allow for it

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold.
The dwarves of yore made mightly spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.

For ancient king and elvish lord
There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
To hide in gems on hilt of sward.
On silver necklaces they strung
The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, in twisted wire
They meshed the light of moon and sun.
Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeouns deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day,
To claim our long-forgotten gold.

Goblets they carved there for themselves
And harps of gold; where no man delves
There lay they long, and many a song
Was sung unheard by men or elves.
The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night,
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
The trees like torches blazed with light.
The bells were ringing in the dale
And men looked up with faces pale;
The dragon's ire more fierce than fire
Laid low their towers and houses frail.

The mountain smoked beneath the moon;
The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom.
They fled their hall to dying fall
Beneath his feet, beneath the moon.

Far over the misty mountains grim
To dungeons deep and caverns dim
We must away, ere break of day,
To win our harps and gold from him!

The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night,
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
The trees like torches blazed with light.
The bells were ringing in the dale
And men looked up with faces pale;
The dragon's ire more fierce than fire
Laid low their towers and houses frail.

"Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure," said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

^ that's the mega summer Batman slot right there!

If fans waiting was an issue they would drop part 2 and 3 a couple months apart like the Wachowski Bros did with Matrix.

I don't understand why this is being released as a trilogy.

^ money mostly

but Jackson wanted to go really in depth with the story - plus the last part (The Hobbit: There and Back Again) is supposed to be a bridge with added content that links it closer to the story and characters of Lord of the Rings with guidance from Christopher Tolkien
