Random Information
T&T needs 68,000 pints of blood a year...
Amt Donated :21,000 pints per year...

I might have the amt needed off by about 5000..but u get the picture..

^^^^it's worse when you consider most units donated are not voluntary....most people give because somebody they know is in a jam...........those who donate for the cause are in the minority :(
speaking of which, I think I should be due to give again about now

But walkin in Mt Hope front entrance..all u see..is a security guard..
Given the right time off night...that guard can either be alseep ON the desk..or on the floor..infront the desk..
Where do u go? Who do u talk to? Do you carry your donor card?
How often do THEY think a male can give? (since ive heard varying opinions on this)

It is most unfortunate that getting people to voluntarily give blood is worse than pulling teeth.

I remember recently when Kerry had his accident plenty talk was made and concerns expressed, but when I raised the issue of giving blood before an accident demands, there were sounds of silence….

I will also will be going back in shortly and will inquire about the Mt. Hope facility.

I know at POS you get really great treatment as a voluntary donor.

And men can give every 4 months.

Well POS is great ppl..except the receptionist IMHO...
But the name on my donor card is ... wrong.. so i need to go get that changed..so i tink next 4 months i'll be heading back to POS to get it changed...not sure if dey would change it in Mt Hope...should probably find out b4 i go all that way for nothing tho..

eurogirl, Thanks for the directions..come to think about it...i can see the sign in my mind..but it never clicked to me..GIVE BLOOD HERE...

I have received the following questions/concerns that I believe can help everyone if answered here. I will break it up and answer in parts…

“Concerning the blood donations, a friend of mine recently got into an accident in which he needed blood, the hospital said that his friends and family had to give blood to the blood bank BEFORE they would give him blood.â€

Additionally, for those who were able to donate in an emergency situation, you would have seen the detailed and drastic questions that you should have answered honestly.

Having passed this, you would realize that to be able to donate blood, even your lifestyle has to be up to a certain standard, or you will not be able to give for your own family in that time of need.

So here too, as a voluntary donor, you would realize that you must maintain that high degree of “social behaviourâ€

^^^^ Congrats SNIPER 3000, You will never regret this.

I really hope we can get others to come forward, and if anyone wants somebody to go with them the first time, just say the word.

so exactly under what circumstances does the hospital give blood to a person in dire need without the stipulation that the patient finds friends and family to come up a donated quota first ?

Congrats to you, and was it a big deal? No way!

You should aim to give on a quarterly basis and build up your "account".

In NY you can donate once you have not gotten a tatoo in the last 12 months. I think it's the same guideline in Trini.

Confirmed that this is also the standard in T&T.

^^^ correct

also i went abt 3wks ago and the process took abt 2 hrs

and i was well enough to drive home and function normally for the rest of the day

BUT dont exert yourself else you'll faint :|

i only felt a lil light headed the morning after no biggie. i guess it also depends on the individual too

^^^ Congrats on this move.

Now if you become a regular voluntary donor, you will start to receive preferential attention on your visits to donate and cut back on that waiting time.
