Philadelphia may be bringing back mask mandates. It might be a useful case study to show how masks reduce covid spread, except that it may be introduced when ba2 is already declining and get misinterpreted.

Looting has broken out in Shanghai as the city buckles under a strict Covid lockdown.

Footage shared across social media shows unrest as crowds are demanding access to basic necessities.

Residents are not allowed to leave their homes even to get food under China’s ‘zero Covid’ policy.

Shanghai has reported a new daily record of more than 26,000 coronavirus cases and more than 100 makeshift hospitals with capacity for 160,000 patients have been built in response to the spike in infections.

they need 160000 beds? they could have donated some to T&T if they have so much and unlikely to use most of it.

unless they know something about the strain there and not telling the world (new variant which escapes even immunity against severe disease for vaxxed and previously infected ppl?)

Shanghai reported 1,015 confirmed and 22,609 asymptomatic domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a new record. The city has reported about a total of 150,000 infections since March 1.

Shanghai's largest makeshift hospital, which can provide more than 50,000 beds, was delivered around Saturday noon, and the first batch of patients has been transferred there.

Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan on Saturday urged strict moves to implement epidemic control measures, and everything possible to ensure transportation and supply chains in Shanghai

India has objected to the methodology used by the World Health Organization (WHO) for estimating the deaths caused by coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the country. The ministry of health and family welfare said in a statement that the same mathematical model cannot be used to calculate the Covid mortalities for a large country like India, geographically and population-wise, and for other countries with a smaller population.

The statement was in response to a New York Times article titled 'India Is Stalling WHO's Efforts to Make Global Covid Death Toll Public' dated April 16. According to the report, the UN health agency has estimated a total of about 15 million deaths related to the virus by the end of 2021, more than double the official figures reported by countries individually. The report claimed the WHO estimate will show India's death toll is at least four million, almost eight times the official numbers.

no just either a heads up or an announcement that teh airline itself would remove it by a certain date.

does AATT have any say in the mask mandate for flights between T&T and US?

mask mandates are enforced by airlines, not aviation authorities.

The US mandate was enforced by TSA/CBP, based on CDC guidelines, hence why it took a federal judge to overturn it.

Yes. But the point I was getting at is AATT cannot tell a US based airline to mandate masks on flights between TT and US. It would be up to the airline to enforce it. CAL would be a different story.

why not? they can't regulate flights at least TO T&T? same way FAA regulates flights to US and we already have a testing mandate

the airline can have its own mandate which they did before any federal mandate, so they could decide to continue to require it for a few days while they notify customers with booked tickets.

Anyone read the ruling and the reason? The reason why not to wear a mask?
Republican supporters (and the local trickle down facebook idiots) can't get more stupidly manipulated than this.
(Or can they!) *zoom in intensifies*

“Wearing a mask cleans nothing,” U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle wrote in her decision on Monday. “At most, it traps virus droplets. But it neither ‘sanitizes’ the person wearing the mask nor ‘sanitizes’ the conveyance.”

Mizelle, 35, was only eight years out of law school at University of Florida when Trump appointed her to the lifetime position in 2020. The Daily Beast noted at the time that her only trial experience was as an intern, and that she held four clerkships, including one for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Mizelle was rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Association prior to her appointment, citing her lack of experience.
