Just so you know, for political reasons they deviated from their 3 year plan.

It looks like the skipped the incremental increase in all fuels and went straight to the 2 or 3 year price for premium.

Slump in sale of premium

THE sale of premium unleaded gasoline appeared to have slumped at service stations in San Fernando yesterday.
Pump attendants said some customers were switching to the cheaper super unleaded gas, while others reluctantly paid the increased price for premium gas.
Minister of Finance Larry Howai announced in his first budget presentation on Monday that the environmentally-friendly premium gasoline would increase $1.75 as of yesterday, from $4 to $5.75 per litre.
An employee at C Nobbee Service Station, Pointe-a-Pierre Road, San Fernando said: "Sale is very slow today, since the increase in price. But when people heard about the increase yesterday (Monday) they came and filled up, so we will have to wait and see."
The employee said the first sale of premium gas came two hours after the service station was opened yesterday.
At La Carib Service Station, Carib Street, San Fernando, customers were switching to super gasoline.
"The sale of premium gas is really bad today. People are looking at the cost now, so they are asking for super instead," an attendant said.
Motorist Clarence Joseph said "the price has increased, but I will have to pay if I want to continue driving a working vehicle".
He added: "I have to look at how it will affect my car. The last owner used premium gas and I continued. I will have to pay the price."
Joseph drives a Nissan AD wagon.
Another driver, Marlon Johnson, said he too will continue to buy premium gas.
"I drive a normal Toyota Corolla car but my mechanic advised that I use premium gas, so I will have to pay the increased price," he said.

Fellas who switching to super it may only make sense in a very short term. Listen to the minister of finance carefully, he will be further reducing the fuel subsidy during the year 2013. He never said next budget, I strongly suspect that the super and diesel price will be increased by early next year. I think raising premium first was a strategy to not shock the population and tell the other "94%" to get ready.

Don't think they wanted to raise across the board after the section 34 fiasco either.

They need to call an election that's what.

Why don't they cut their salaries and other unecessary "allowances"?

And then what? PNM is not the set who originally suggested tinkering with the fuel subsidy?

national watchwords apply: you could run, but you cant hide. Anguses better be prepared cuz more increases coming.

Sure electricity will be touched in the coming years too.
It don't matter which political party is in office, it must be done. The politics of the situation is how they implement the increases.
44% increase over night is harsh for anything (except salary). That is where the problem lies.

I find they should, maybe then people will be more conservative.

But meanwhile solar panel prices have to go down and availability must increase. Besides pricesmart, who else sells these?

I agree just not over night, because it may really be just 6% of the population could afford it.

I agree not overnight as well, thats why I asked about solar panels. I really cannot think of any other alternatives besides that (wind to a lesser extent but it cant power much).

Had a nice article on the newspapers awhile back about a couple in siparia that had almost their entire house powered off solar and had a heap of storage cells. I think they had a small windmill too (dont see that adding much) and they had plans of disconnesting permanatly from T&TEC.
Iirc the house had an ac unit as well and that was since then, I sure cells get cheaper and more efficient now. There are houses up the island chain using solar and they managing fine.

I sure people going to bawl it expensive but look at how much $$$ people squander on other un necessary stuff and then ask yourself if they can afford it (the solar panels).

I have been patiently waiting for solar panel prices to decrease (& iirc you also get something off in your taxes if you got solar panels :D)

all over the world ppl are standing up for theirselves.. and yet in trinidad for a section 34 march.. we get vex cause there is traffic...

we must just love corruption and bachannal! gives us something to talk about

Regarding the corolla. All 121 and 141 that have the 1NZ-FE engine should run premium. It says so right in the manual. This is because of the 10.5:1 CR of this motor. The other engines listed for use with 91 RON have a lower CR.

The majority of local NZE121's and NZE141's come with the 1NZ-FE engine (1.5L models), the exceptions being the 1.8 option with the 1ZZ-FE engine, but you could probably count the amount of 1.8s sold locally on one hand.

I ran super in mine a good few years ago (about 1/4 tank) when there was a shortage and I could not get premium....it ran like crap.

The 1NZ-FE engine was introduced into the local market as early as 2001 so there are many on the road.

Image

The government saying that the increase is only going to affect 6% of the driving population is grossly misguided at best. Going one step further and telling the public to use super instead of premium because they don't need premium fuel is utterly asinine. Dem name meckarnic.

As regards the 1NZ-FE would removing the Catalytic Converter help with the performance when using Super unleaded?

Notice in the the manual they said vehicles with 3 way catalytic converter have to use 95 or higher. If I had one of these vehicles I would take out the converter and see how it works.

I had a b14 which the said use unleaded.
Took out the converter and used leaded gas and it ran just fine!

Just saying. People are free to just pay big money for gas with out trying something.
It is a free country!

2 questions
1. Do police vehicles run on premium?
2. With the removal of VAT on cctvs and security equipment does this mean the law is amended to allow video evidence in court?

conspiracy theory time again:

see what PariaMan talking about, it start.

If prices were increased same time on all fuels less people will try to convert to super.

Now with the experimenting people will damage vehicles either in the short term or long term and these damages will be done long before they jack up the prices on super.

Who services vehicles, who brings parts, who you have to run to?

Who funds these parties during election time?

They have to eat a food.

Question what happens when you use a lower octane rating?

I am not an expert but from what I understand the engine will knock

Most modern vehicles have an Anti Knock sensor so that it can take an octane rating lower that recommended!

Once your vehicle not knocking you good to go

But just sayin I have diesel!

Feel free to use premium even if your vehicle not knocking when you use Super!
