Well today the CPL tournament will reveal which team between Warriors and Trident will represent the WI in the Champions League in India in September.
I thought that it would be interesting to take a look at some of the issues that each team might confront if it emerges the winner.
The following 4 IPL teams have qualified for the Champions League
(1) Kings XI Punjab,
(2) Kolkata Knightriders,
(3) Chennai Super Kings
(4) Mumbai Indians
If the Tridents win, it would mean that Pollard and Rampaul of the Mumbai Indians would double-qualify.
Smith of Chennai Super Kings would double-qualify and Jason and Jason Holder of the Otago Volts of New Zealand would also double-qualify.
Should Warriors win, Lendl Simmons of Mumbai Indians, Sunil Narine of Kolkata Knight Riders and Neesham of the Otago Volts would double-qualify.
They each have to make a choice. In the case of Pollard and Narine, historically, they have chosen their IPL teams over T&T. Therefore, to guess which team they would choose to represent at the Champions League is tantamount to being a no-brainer.
I am guessing that Jason Holder will stay with his country's Tridents and Neesham will choose his country's Otago Volts over the Amazon Warriors.
Simmons, Smith and Rampaul, although they would prefer to represent WI, they, like Pollard, Smith and Narine, would not have the courage to offend their IPL masters.
If one of them would break from that pack of of 3 and represent the Caribbean team, it would be Rampaul, because he would have a better chance of making the Tridents final 11 than he would have making the Mumbai final 11.
So in summary Amazon Warriors have 3 players that they should not count on:
(1) Simmons
(2) Narine
(3) Neesham
Should they win today, they should start immediately to consider 3 replacements for the Champions League
The Barbados Trident should certainly not count on the following 2 double-qualifiers if they win today.
(1) Pollard
(2) Smith
I would stick my neck out and say that they can count on Holder and Rampaul for the reasons I stated earlier
