U.S President Donald Trump signed a spate of executive actions, memoranda, and proclamations on his first day back in office:

He began signing executive orders and presidential actions onstage at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., as thousands of supporters cheered on Monday 20th January, 2025.

Some of Trump's executive actions are:

1. Mass Deportation: The president's signature campaign promise is to carry out "mass deportations" of immigrants who are in the country unlawfully.
To carry out his sweeping plans, Trump has suggested he would expand the authority of immigration agents and use the U.S. military.

2. Trump has also promised to end birthright citizenship.
Birthright citizenship, which guarantees citizenship to anyone born on US soil, is protected by the 14th amendment and any attempt to revoke it will likely bring immediate legal challenges. The order attempts to deny documents recognizing US citizenship for individuals who meet that criteria and are born in the US 30 days after the order was signed.

3. Trump has promised to restart construction of the border fence at the U.S.-Mexico border.

4. Trump has promised first-day action taking aim at rights for transgender people, including making it the official policy of the U.S. government to recognize only two genders: males and females.
Trump said he will sign executive orders to end "child sexual mutilation," get transgender people out of the military and public schools, and to keep athletes born male biologically from participating in women's sports.

5. Another executive order signed by Trump called for the U.S. to leave the World Health Organization. The order cites "the organization's mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic" and "onerous" costs associated with being apart of the international organization as the reasons for the U.S.' withdrawal.

6. Trump also directed the Justice Department to seek the death penalty for unauthorized immigrants who murder law enforcement officers or commit capital crimes.

7. With a ban on TikTok going into effect over the weekend, Trump said he plans to issue a Day 1 executive order to ensure the wildly popular social media app can continue to operate.

8. The newly instated president also issued pardons or commuted the sentences of more than 1,500 people charged in the January 6 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

The U.S. Air Force will no longer teach its recruits about the Tuskegee Airmen, the more than 15,000 Black pilots, mechanics and cooks in the segregated Army of World War II, an official with the military branch confirmed to Reuters Saturday.

Course instruction about the pilots, as well as video of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) − a paramilitary aviation organization of female pilots employed to fly during World War II − was also pulled from basic training curriculum, the outlet reported.

The Tuskegee Airmen, an active fighter unit from 1940 to 1952, were the first soldiers who flew during World War II.

The group flew more than 15,000 sorties and destroyed more than 100 German aircraft.

You know for a fact Elon is racist? The man is one of the strongest proponents for the US H1B visa programme which is dominated by non white recipients.

United States President Donald Trump’s “America First” policies have begun to hit home.

Sources confirmed yesterday that the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF), which has benefited from training programmes with the US military, has been formally notified that the training for the TTDF in Civil-Military Coordination in Disaster Relief, which was due to start on January 25, 2025, has been cancelled.

The training was to be done under the aegis of the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency.

The cancellation has come following Trump issuing an Executive Order last Friday placing an almost blanket suspension of all foreign aid, which extends to includes grant aided assistance programmes.

Sources said that while in Trinidad and Tobago the Defence Force was the largest beneficiary over the years, the T&T Police Service has also been the recipient of assistance under this programme.

In fact the TTDF was told, in correspondence, that the IMET (International Military Education and Training) courses with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force would be affected. It said the cancellations of IMET programmes were because of the Executive Order which has placed a 90-day freeze on funding. This Executive mandated a “revaluation and realignment” of US foreign aid. This is the first local assistance programme for Trinidad and Tobago to be affected by Trump’s policies.

According to its website, the US Security Assistance Programme provides training to selected foreign military and defence associated civil personnel on a grant basis. The training is provided at US military facilities and with US Armed Forces in the United States, and overseas, and through the use of Mobile Training Teams. The IMET programme is authorised by the US Foreign Assistance Act.

Trump’s Executive Order, which was published last Friday, stated: “The United States foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and in many cases [are] antithetical to American values....All department and agency heads with responsibility for United States foreign development assistance programmes shall immediately pause new obligations and disbursements of development assistance funds to foreign countries and implementing non-governmental organisations, international organisations, and contractors, pending reviews of such programmes for programmatic efficiency and consistency with United States foreign policy”.

Trump’s policy will affect all countries which have been beneficiaries of US grant-aided programmes. He has also withdrawn America from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and he has vowed to quit the universally adopted 2025 Paris Agreement, the legally-binding international treaty on climate change.

“America First” policy is a general proposition that the foreign policy of the United States should champion core American interests and always put American and Americans citizens first. It means that global affairs and obligations are subordinate to America’s national interests and domestic policies.
