Four (4) suspected car thieves were detained by police officers on Saturday 1st July, 2023.

• The four suspects were identified as 19-year-old Oshun Thomas of Old St Joseph Road, Laventille; 42-year-old Keon McGilvery of Homeland Gardens, Chaguanas; 29-year-old Matthew Kinsale of Building 14 Duncan Street, Port-of-Spain and 23-year-old Akeem Wilson of Building 17, Maloney Gardens.

• At around 10:30 am, officers were participating in a health and wellness team building exercise at Paria Main Road, Blanchisseuse, when they observed two men walking out of a dirt track and entering a silver Nissan Note registered PEB 7909.

• Upon further observation, the officers noticed a red Mazda 3 reg # PCS 4401 parked approximately 150 meters off the roadway in a bushy area, where the suspects were seen.

• Further checks revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen from a medical doctor in the Arouca area, earlier that day.

• As the officers began approaching the suspects, they began running in different directions and a chase ensued.

• The officers managed to apprehend Thomas who was in possession of the keys to the stolen vehicle.

• Several hours later, the officers intercepted a Nissan Note near Yara Bay, and arrested three other suspects.

• Pc Nunez of the Arouca C.I.D is continuing investigations.

Those signal blockers are illegal all over the world unless you're military/police.

I had brought in some for personal use about 15 years ago from a trade show in China.

Small like a cigarette pack and labelled like a marlboro pack. Blocks all signals within a 10 to 15 foot radius.

I sure whatever it have on thr market now must be much better and smaller

Then gps providers should monitor when the signal disappears and notify the driver immediately.

best option is an authentication system where after a few minutes you need to input a secret code of some sort or the car shuts down

i think only Car Search have an alternate tracking method via RF frequency but they more expensive.

Supply and Demand. Plus with so many on the roads it's easy to fit in.

Car theft has become so prevalent now, it's a wonder more citizens not beating down the doors of these GPS tracking companies.

It's baffling to me that persons are willing to spend upwards of 100 and 200 thousand for a new/used vehicle, but nothing to protect it or recover it.

GPS tracking, like an alarm system, should almost be a requirement now...especially if you have a vehicle that popular with the thieves. It still may not help you in a car-jacking situation, but at least it may help in getting it back quickly.
