Is the book "accounting for dummies" a good place for me to start learning about accounting? What other resources do you recommend?

Depends on what your application of the knowledge will be.

If its general knowledge and personal use-yep the dummies line is probably great.

If its for investment analysis-look toward investopia or such sites that will have info on accounting geared towards investing.

that said-accounting knowledge will have less impact on investment returns than you might like to believe.

Thank you. It's more a mix of both investing and my own education. I've realised that I struggle to read and interpret some financial statements and jargons so I'm trying to fix that. I'm already going through investopia. I'll still read the dummies book as well.

I am most certain that Capital gains taxes on all shares, fixed deposits, bonds, savings account ect will be coming in next PNM budget.

Brace yuh selfs. You little earnings will be max taxed.

And wait for it, inheritance tax is on the cards.

Inheritance tax might be a good thing ...

Will cause lots of lower income people who newly inherit property to have to sell it to pay the taxes on it. Leading to said people selling off the land cheaper.

Bank stocks taking a beating. Easy to anticipate the downward pressure on local stocks. Another 10% correction on the cards methinks....

When price falling it is time to start looking for deals with companies with strong fundamentals . What we all looking for is to buy low and sell high.

Massy 2Q FS show operating cash flow down 29% QoQ and PBT down 3%.

Similar for 6 months PBT down 3% but comprehensive income up approx 40%.

So why the difference b/t profit and comprehensive income? An $84.4 MM in currency translation gain in 2016 vs a 2015 $37.3MM translation loss.

Interesting when you put it into context.

If I had to guess it would be the branding and consolidation expenses and the international expansion costs

Could it be the prospect of more plants cutting back? Or America's independence from foreign oil?

Re balancing of portfolios in advance of year end???
Locally a sell off could just be liquidity or lack there of in the market.
