those powersupplys that comes with cases when you buy them how good is it?

i heard they are buggy

i wanna change my case to one with led fans

to hell with generic PSUs

Remember is sensitive (and EXPENSIVE) things you powering that needs a constant voltage with no peaks and dips , and plus, generic PSUs never give their rated wattage

never EVER neglect your power supply for any electronic device (amps/PCs/etc)

Got a 500W Coolermaster from PRW for $300 , idk if it still have but its okay for normal equipment,

go with Corsair's AX line if you going big

Having a slight problem fellas:
Every time i resume my laptop from hibernation/boot up, after logging in. I always have to wait about 10 seconds. Because the mouse cursor sticks. The CPU light is on steadily while this going on.
Then after about 10-20 seconds everything resumes. Avast says its updated, bittorrent resumes, etc.

System has i5 Sandy Bridge, 8GB DDR3 Ram, 750GB 7200RPM Hard drive

Should i be worried about this? Or am i running too many things at once?

sounds about normal really

look at it like this

the laptop's devices are coming out of bed, just dont jump up and go! this is quiet normal for systems coming out of standby/hibernation.. while there are the few that jump out just perfect.

hit and miss id call it.

sometimes u wont even get ur wireless back and u end up having to restart the darn thing!

Stupid me setup the SSD with IDE on :( I turn on AHCI on now. BSOD. :(
I gonna reinstall etc later. I must say tho, if you have an old system, throw an SSD in it, you'll be shocked.

Oh. PSA, if you were smart like me to install win7 in IDE mode, you don't have to reinstall windows. Just go in the registry and change a value. I'll try this later.

What's the price of those plexi cases btw?

Anyhow, I opened up the psu and a quick visual examination reveals a fryed diode. It's between the 2 black caps on the side where the two red wires from the voltage switch (115 / 230v) enter the board. Diodes cheap, attempt a repair? Problem is the diode looks discolored, might not be able to make out the color of the bands.

Edit: its a pair of diodes gone. Repair? Caps look ok btw.

Oh, and I gonna need a good 5.1 soundcard too, recommendations anyone?

The clear cases are like between $5-600.

Soundblaster cards are nice but the driver support for them ends early.

You could try the asus xonar cards as well.

regarding CPU heatsinks

is it better to blow air towards it (the board)
or suck the air out of the heatsink and blow it in the opposite direction of the board?

I thinking it will be better to get the hot air out instead of blowing it against the CPU/board
but I studying the fan will be getting hot since all that hot air has to pass through it and that might diminish the life

If it's the side panel fan your're referring to....that blows towards the motherboard preferably your GPU

Dependent on the HSF combo you chose and the airflow going on in your case. Stock ones do as you described generally. There are others that develop on the stock ones (like better pipes, larger fins, etc.) or ones that blow parallel to the board (or whichever direction) instead of downward to the board like CM Hyper series, zalmans, noctuas, etc.

I personally think it's a personal preference and what you can afford. The CMs are pretty cheap and work well. I've seen temps drop from 60-70 to 40's with the downward type CM one (I think it's the vortex) but the airflow in that case is weird. So it works pretty well. I'm seeing there is the hyper series for a good price as well. I personally went with the vortex due to size and height limitations.

so I got an Imexx 500 psu today at whizz (diamond only had big ones).

There is a nice fan remaining from the old x-tech one, looks like a salvage in case I score the replacement diodes and the psu is still a loss cause.
I have extra cables from the new one....like quite a few. It safe to tap into those 4 pin molex connectors and power up the fan? which is +tive and ground?
