This looks interesting if you're into elaborate HT setups.

Although I have a bias lighting strip behind my TV which does lend some ambiance and immersion, not sure I'd go for this as it seems a bit much.

Although that light saber scene at 0:46 could change my mind

Have an extra pair of SB Acoustics SB26STAC-C000-4 1" Textile Dome Tweeter for sale.

Very good off-axis response, from 2000hz up, with low distortion. 91db

This crazy device packs a 150″ display and JBL sound into a compact portable theater

Image

We spend so much time checking out different gadgets and gizmos that it’s really not easy to impress us these days. We’ve tried it all. But every so often we come across a device that really manages to put smiles on our faces, and that’s exactly what happened the first time we tested the Nebula Mars Portable Cinema. Nebula is a new brand from Anker, which everyone knows and loves, and this is the company’s first device on Amazon. It’s a portable projector, yes, but it’s unlike any portable projector you’ve ever seen before.

Anyone interested in troubleshooting or taking it off my hands PM me..

Or if anyone has a contact for a competent repair person..would appreciate it.

Trying a thing. I have a set of spare paradigm atoms that I bought in 1999. The foam surrounds were gone, so I repaired them and tested. Sound great. By modern standards maybe a little dull and not much bass. BUT Still smooth and natural.

Image

Was thinking of a small project with these for some easy listening, so bought this off Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Amplifier-Blueto ... ords=mo+gu

Image

Came nicely packaged with a 1/8" headphone jack to two RCA male and a 1/8" to 1/8" plus a 5A powersupply.

Nice little case, really REALLY small, nice binding posts.

The idea is to stream from my phone or ipad using BT or the wired connection sometimes and use the old speakers for some backgroun muzakk. Already have a decent HT and a small stereo in the kitchen, so not sure where it will go yet.

Stay tuned, I'll hook it up and give it a review.

I tried it. The amp itself sharpens things up a bit, which is good. BT connectivity was easy and quick. The metal volume knob moves smoothly.

Was very impressed with the sound. Now to find somewhere to use it....

Those little chip amps are extremely good, the best thing you can do is use a good quality power supply. The ones that come with em are pretty crappy.

How loud would you say the amp was before the output sounded distorted? As loud as a typical car radio?

Fella. I did not crank it to distortion and certainly will not. Next time I will take a spl reading at 1 metre and tell you how loud it was. But I doubt I was playing at more that 70 something dbs.

Buying NEW TV ? 3 Must Have Features !

Postby RedVEVO » November 23rd, 2017, 9:19 am

When buying a NEW TV what are the features you want ?

Some you SHOULD have are as follows :

1. Plenty HDMI Ports [ These are the ports that connect to your cable box, your gaming system, your Apple TV, Roku and other products ]

2. HDR [ You'll get more light in darker scenes, meaning it's easier to see the content ]

3. Refresh Rates [ 120 Hz or better . More is better ]

I would say two is fine, if you're into HT and have a receiver, that acts as the hub really, not the TV.

2. HDR [ You'll get more light in darker scenes, meaning it's easier to see the content ]

I wouldn't say this is necessary, I would prefer more detailed calibration methods and richer blacks.

3. Refresh Rates [ 120 Hz or better . More is better ]

Again, not necessary at all if the primary use is movies. For gaming I can understand a higher refresh rate, but I wouldn't agree that higher is better.

These three criteria might be what you are looking for, but individual equipment and goals will vary. I for one would not be interested in any of those things listed.

Checked out the Samsung QLED 65" in Standards today.
That picture quality is astounding

there was a grey piece of leather with the Samsung logo placed on the side of the image on the screen that I thought was an actual piece of leather they draped over it, had to go right up to the TV to realise that was the image on the screen.

The black levels are deep and inky, no light bleeding, no localization issues, the colour was a bit oversaturated but I guess that's the usual non calibrated settings in the store.

Incredible!

No, no and no

1. In a proper setup you only need one HDMI input as you should be using a AV receiver and the TV is just a display. The AV receiver should have tons of HDMI inputs.

2. HDR is only as good as the source material (GIGO), anything further is digitally making something that is not here.

3. Most movies are filmed at 24 or 30 FPS, the 120Hz or 240Hz is actually produced by the TV digitally, like digital zoom, unless it's for gaming it creates a "soap opera effect" which is generally considered undesirable.

Wow... People have to research more... Soap opera effect only happens if you let the TV smooth or interpolate frames... Set it to frame repeat and it will look heaps better... Depending on the source of course
It is beneficial to get the higher refresh rate... It removes a lot of the ghosting issues associated with fast moving scenes in an LED TV
And it is definitely not like digital zoom

Just installed and setup a Sony BDV-E3100 at home. It’s a HTIaB system at a theoretical max 1000W rating through 5.1 channels. Imported it through my skybox at a total approx cost of $3,000. TTD. I saw standards was selling the BDV-E2100 for around the same price and PriceSmart had the BDV-E4100 for $3,500. I simply wanted a device that could replace my game console to use apps such as YT and Netflix so WiFi and BT were must have features. This saved me from having to purchase a new Smart HDTV because my Samsung Plasma 600Hz is still going strong as ever. Compared to my car stereo, this thing is awesome lol.

Interpolation or smoothing adds frames.
Frame repeat isn't adding anything.. It just repeats the same frame another time.

When you turn off the smoothing on 120hz and 240hz screens... The refresh rate doesn't change.(or at least in the past it didn't)

Some help needed please.

I am not an audiophile.

Bought a Panasonic 2200w (3 speakers of which one is a sub-woofer) stereo system.

The other 2 speakers work well.

I just hooked up the sub-woofer and it sounds very dull and extremely low, compared to the other two.

I thought the sub-woofer would have given me a clean sound like the other 2 speakers.

Am I missing something?

Or is something wrong with the subwoofers?

How's the placement?, subs need loading against boundaries whether its against a wall or in a corner , you'll also have to move around as well depending on how standing waves are interacting in your room.

Okay. I have a 3 shelf system. The main player is on the 2nd shelf.

2 speakers are on the top shelf because they cannot fit anywhere else.

The sub-woofer is on a small bookcase (close to a wall) separate from the 3 shelf system. I have it facing away from the other 2 speakers.

I am wondering if the sub-woofer is really working properly. This is my first experience with one.

Yeah, you don't want it suspended, put it on the floor tucked up to a wall.

I hope I am not being too presumptuous but is this is your first experience with a subwoofer? It sounds to me as if you're expecting to hear the higher frequency sound content from the subwoofer like you are hearing from the other two speakers. A subwoofer is made to produce just the lower frequency content like the bass guitar or bass drum if you listening to music or the rumble of an explosion in a movie.

If you find there's too much or too little "base" in your sound, the sub should at least have a gain control or "knob" to adjust "how loud the subwoofer is". A decent sub would have an extra control to adjust the crossover frequency and a phase control. Here's a link to an article with a video that explains these controls - https://lifehacker.com/how-to-properly-set-your-subwoofers-volume-without-sh-1506136549
