A hit was ordered on the life of bank employee Shermell Roberts.
The hit was orchestrated from the United States by a person associated with a man Roberts had been in a relationship with before he died last year, senior police sources said yesterday.
Roberts, 36, was ambushed and shot dead moments after driving into the yard of her home at Kitchener Avenue in Barataria around 4 p.m. on Monday.
A car pulled alongside Roberts’ vehicle and a gunman started firing as she was about to get out of the driver’s seat.
She received gunshot wounds to the right side of her neck and head.
Roberts was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, but died while receiving treatment.
Senior police sources told the Express Roberts had been in a relationship with a man known to police. The man died last year of diabetic complications.
A senior officer said the man did not have a will and someone associated with him in the United States “called the hit on her to ensure she doesn’t inherit his estate as he made no will”.
Several 9mm shells were recovered from the murder scene.
