you can download and install. Once you were using a genuine windows 7/8/8.1 the product key will be installed automatically.

if you insist you MUST have a product key you can update to windows 10 then use a tool like
RW everything OR firmware table view by nirsoft OR windows OEM product key by neo smart tech

RW everything >>> http://rweverything.com/

firmware table view>> http://www.nextofwindows.com/firmwareta ... from-bios/

windows OEM product key >> https://neosmart.net/OemKey/

neexis wrote:Upgraded from 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite.

Couldn't get Wifi or Ethernet connection to get the machine online. Half cooked drivers? Nothing available on Toshiba's website.

Rolled back to 8.1 15 mins later.

you should have checked the manufacturer of the chipset website.
they (usually) provide generic drivers which work for the new operating system

for example when i downgraded my laptop from vista to XP there was no drivers on HP website so i went to the audio chipset manufacturer which provided generic drivers for my sound card under windows XP...installed it..they worked...did a reboot...windows for more upto date drivers..updated to those - no issues since.

did this for my sound, lan, video, and wireless.

worse case sceneario...check for drivers FIRST before installing windows 10.

DTAC wrote:Laptop owners check with your manufacturer's website to see if they have Windows 10 drivers available for your laptops. That seems to be the majority of problems.

wise words... but what if your laptop didnt come with windows7..or 8..??
would it then be considered too old to run windows 10 ???

Swisha wrote:so long windows 10 was in public beta and these companies now decide to update drivers? :|

you cant update your drivers based on beta software. beta software is just that....beta..aka testing..features may be removed or changed in ways which will negatively affect the driver.

best bet is to always rely on the final product to base the drivers on. :|

Yeah I found a program that shows the product key. Should have updated the thread but hopefully anyone else who's worried will see that and know what to do.

so yesterday I FINALLY got the notification on my mom pc to get windows 10 now.
*breathes sigh of relief.

so checking the tool I get this...
Image

and WHY ----

Image

Like WTF.....good news is all the other components meet the minimum requirements.
my CPU is 2.8GHz which means its more than adequate - speed wise however the technology it has is abit tooo outdated...

did a little web searching and you processor MUST have SSE2 and EM64T and either VT-d or VT-x
for example

Image

my processor however.....
Image

will do a chip upgrade (if possible) as well as a hard drive upgrade and check again to see if I can run windows 10..
If not...I'd better settle on windows 7 ultimate 32bit. :|

Got Windows 10 Wednesday Night, really enjoying it so far.

I got cortana and it is a nifty feature (just wished it opened up with chrome, when making online searches)..the new internet explorer( edge ) is actually pretty cool, i found that load up time for webpages seem to take a bit longer than when using chrome. My smart gesture was not working initially on my laptop, went to ASUS website and downloaded the driver and it was all good.

Overall for the minimum use of the O/S seems to be good, organized and smooth. No noticeable lags between operations yet..Just waiting to see how it manages with Games and all the goodies Microsoft promised. Really love how i can create a new desktop without getting a third party app..helps a lot when i am doing work

The XBOXONE app seems to be a bit glitchy, would experiment with it a little more however.

I was under the impression that if you had set chrome to be the default browser then cortana would have used it over edge.

Tip for anyone upgrading on an windows 7 back machine that gets the dreaded no audio issue that appeared with windows 8.

1.) Right click on speaker icon, select 'Sounds'
2.) Left click on 'Playback' tab
3.) Left click on the device (in my case, the Conexant SmartAudio HD Device); you should see 'Configure' and 'Properties' light up on the bottom. Click 'Properties'
4.) Now, click on 'Enhancements'
5.) Left click the checkbox 'Disable All Enhancements'. Click Apply. You should now have sound. You may have to restart the computer, but in my case, I did not have too.
If this doesn't work, or you don't see "Disable All Enhancements" listed, you will have to revert back to the inbox driver.I hope this information helps you. Good luck.

The media creation tool will actually do the upgrade for you without the need for any media.
Did it yesterday on a Vaio.

Hahahaha WdMC the start menu stopped working. Cannot click it. Cannot right click apps on the Taskbar. PC is essentially useless now. The firetruck going on with Microsoft and releasing the official with this bug? Apparently the only solution is create a new user account. Many people experiencing this too from what I'm reading.

Remember the WIFI sense thing too where if you do not turn it off or change your SSID to include the word "optout", you are literally sharing your wifi connection with all friends on social media, outlook and skype!!
