I am neither for nor against the flag. You are asking a question that deserves no answer here. The flag is legal, who am I to say that I have a problem with it? you are trying to put words into my mouth. There are many reasons for portraying the Confederate battle flag. Are you asking if his intentions are bad? if it is good? I cannot answer such a question as I do not know what the motives of a person is. The flag is a legal flag in anypart of the world you go, it has deep history behind it, none of us know what the motives are of a person displaying the Confederate battle flag.
So long as the Confederate battle flag remains legal I have absolutely nothing to say about it.

If you were asking me about him displaying the flag of Nazi Germany, we would be having a totally different discussion as I would be able to answer you quite easily. What would be your question if he had a picture of the swastika as his internet picture or whatever you call it? would you be asking if it makes him racist? when a vast number of churches and temples use it as a holy symbol?

[b]Save our citizens. Protect this country. Vote Kamla 2015!! Vote for our children's future and support the PPG for 2015 general election! Do not be fooled as the only government that can take this country forward is the People's Partnership

I can't believe that people still think Ghany is an objective political analyst.

This guy has been continuously trying to keep his political career on life support. Hedging bets and hoping that someone throws him a bone.

Not sure what he still doing at UWI. Academic deadweight with Zero research output for probably the last decade.

I think he means here, these kinds of statements will not be highlighted by the PNM Media houses.

"Former Senator Fitzgerald Hinds asked undecided voters to defend the democracy of Trinidad and Tobago.

The former Opposition Senator and candidate for Laventille West at the People's National Movement's (PNM) was speaking at a public meeting in Belmont on Wednesday night.

Hinds reminded 'undecided' voters of the PNM's strong historical foundation and commitment to the country and said that the UNC is hiding under the facade of the People's Partnership and cannot face the public because they are ashamed of themselves.

He affirmed the PNM as a "strong institution" and asked that voters consider the party's historical track record of achievement when giving their votes.

Hinds was speaking at Piggott's Corner, a historical and well-known meeting place for the party, saying that the PNM would continue its legacy of strong leadership and that the People's Partnership had disgraced themselves considering their historical record.

"They have no right even offering themselves to you, it is an insult to the people of Trinidad and Tobago for them to put their name on a ballot paper.

"Let me tell you undecideds some simple facts, the PNM is in its 60th year as a strong and proud organisation.

"The PNM will continue to go on for the foreseeable future.  From its inception to today has attracted some of the best minds and best citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, Leary Constantine, to CLR James, to Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson, it was given life by Dr Williams, a supreme intellectual and today we are guided by another supreme intellectual, our political leader Dr Keith Christopher Rowley.

"The PNM has been chosen the most as a political party to govern Trinidad and Tobago, since 1956 in this country.

He suggested that under the People's Partnership government the basic rights of citizens have been threatened and that state institutions are being controlled in some measure by the PP government.

"Every single state institution has come under vicious attack, from the judiciary, to the church, to the media, to the Cabinet, to the Parliament to the office of President, every single one, including and not the least, the Integrity Commission.
He made strong arguments regarding accusations of corruption within the People's Partnership government.

"We industrialised this country, we are known as the party of development...of the 225-240 persons who wore the Balisier tie and represented us in the Senate or in the Lower House, or who formed part of our government from 1956 to now, you can't count on your hands those who were justifiably accused of corruption.

"Overand Padmore still lives on a small pension having served this country for decades. Ken Valley passed on not a rich man, perhaps even leaving bills behind. Morris Marshall, the soul of the PNM, he died a poor man.

"Most of the people who served us, came and served with dignity and left without nothing, Patrick Manning still lives in the same house that he had when he came to Prime Ministership in this country, in Sumadh Gardens," he said.

"Those who came to the PNM with plenty money, and some did - I don't want to call no names for somebody to kidnap them, but some did. Do you know, it have some people with some money, who joined the PNM, put on a balisier tie and served as ministers of government, but their power and their money did not interfere with the mores, the philosophy of the PNM.

"They came, they followed our tradition, they served and they left.

He referred to the continued allegations of support that Independent Liberal Party leader Jack Warner provided to the People's Partnership which they initially denied.

"Jack Warner's money took over the whole UNC, today they are denying it, and he producing cheque after cheque, after cheque, after cheque," Hinds said.
He also spoke about the many accomplishments in education and housing, referring to "experienced educationist" Patricia McIntosh.

He boasted that almost all of the young candidates going up for this year's elections have "at least a Master's degree" obtained through the education system set up under the PNM's policies in education.

He also referred to a long list of housing projects started under the party and said "I've told you what we have done, and I challenge you Mr Undecided, to judge us on our track record of service in Trinidad and Tobago."

Referring to the People's Partnership, Hinds said, "All ah dem is alligator from the same murky lagoon."

He then mentioned the leading issues which the party would address if they were elected to government.

"Our leader promises whistleblower legislation as the first item of business.

"We promise you a change in the management of local government and more executive authority akin to the THA (Tobago House of Assembly).

"I promise you under the PNM you will enjoy five years of stable, solid, corruption-free government, led by a Prime Minister worthy of his salt, worthy of his pride, worthy of his record, Dr Keith Rowley," he ended, to loud cheers from supporters.

The PNM confirmed their list of candidates for this year's general elections since April, and the list can be found here: http://bit.ly/1Ll4p6L

Postby eliteauto » June 22nd, 2015, 9:38 am

so after hearing and seeing posts all over the social media I decided to go searching and one can listen from the 32 min mark to hear the comment AND the context

can someone highlight the racist statement? I have seen spliced videos on UNC and PP sympathetic FB pages which seem to suggest he made racist comments. So I ask having listened to the full clip.

If Hinds was referring to MP's in the PP and saying they are all "alligators from the same murky lagoon, how is that racist?

If Hinds is talking about Ashworth Jack and Kamla Persad-Biessesar as being of the same ilk, how is that racist?

Is the statement "alligators from the same murky lagoon" racist? So is " birds of a feather flock together" similarly racist?

I see some people saying Hinds was referring to the UNC, so is the UNC whilst predominantly East Indian in composition, automatically a one race party?

Do East Indians see themselves as alligators? How recent is that development? Does Hinds see East Indians as alligators? How recent is that development

Based on the comments and interpretations being posted on the social media by the UNC, it seems the UNC/PP faction is trying to stoke a racial divide by being overly sensitive as to appeal to their sycophants. It seems the UNC/PP has no room for non-East-Indians as they identify themselves as an East Indian party. Seems the TOP and other parties within the PP are not truly viewed as being a part of the PP and are just window dressing in the eyes of the UNC.

Is this the message of the UNC?

ZR i have to agree there, there is no where in Hinds statement, anything referring to race, creed or color. it is just the same sort of comment Mr Hadeed made when he referred to some cabinet ministers as rats in a audio recording.. If you are finding something racist in that comment, it may be your subconscious fabricating it...

Show me where that I said Hinds alligator statement is racist. Another tuner pointed this out. Maybe you should direct your question to him.
Hinds and Rowley have racist tendencies but nowhere I said his statement is racist.

your handlers should have given you more/better info than that

"Shortly after Louisiana's secession, Governor Thomas Overton Moore issued pleas for troops on April 17 and April 21, 1861. In response to the governor's request, a committee of ten prominent New Orleans free blacks called a meeting at the Catholic Institute on April 22. About two thousand people attended the meeting where muster lists were opened, with about 1,500 free blacks signing up. "

- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Louis ... Guard_(CSA)

only 1,500 signed up and most ended up switching to the Union side against the confederates about one year later.
