have you tried expanding the hose with a heat gun? My heat gun saved me alot of running around when I was doing my setup. Made up all kinda weird fittings, and did all kinda bends. Once you get the hang of using it, u'll se the potential.
But more on the topic, you dont necessarily need a barbed end to get hose iinto. Once you put a good tight hose clip, it would not slip out. The pressure is not even half that of ur house water pump. The pressure is actually quite low.
You can use this (photo), stick a 3/4" - 1/2" inch reducer in it, then stick a small piece of half inch pvc, then get the hose around it, and tighten with a hose clip:
