'Highly pathogenic' bird flu has broken out in two Chinese provinces near Hubei since the beginning of the month as Beijing struggles to contain the novel coronavirus currently ravaging the country.

Nearly 2,000 fowl were killed by the H5N6 strain of avian influenza on a poultry farm in Sichuan Province, Chinese agricultural authority announced yesterday.

Just eight days earlier, 4,500 chickens were reported to have died of H5N1 virus in the province of Hunan.

Four outbreaks of H5N6 bird flu were also reported in western China's Xinjiang in January alone.

One of my supplier in china ask me if I could get masks in trinidad to send for him.

Probably is here already and if it isn't then Carnival will make sure it will be here, chances of it not being in Trinidad is very slim. When I was in Mt Hope last week lots of staff had masks on their face unless that is their standard protocol.

It very sad that Carnival is going to continue given how deadly this virus actually is and how many people have died from it already. But alas Trinis are too selfish and so they will pay for it, unfortunately the innocent will suffer aswell. This will be natural selection at display, it will reveal how illiterate we are as a society when we invite this deadly disease to kill us all.

The people in power currently the PNM are cowards for letting Carnival continue.

A Chinese tourist has died in France after contracting the new coronavirus - the first fatality from the disease outside Asia.

The victim was an 80-year-old man from China's Hubei province, according to French Health Minister Agnès Buzyn.

He arrived in France on 16 January and was placed in quarantine in hospital in Paris on 25 January, she said.

Only three deaths had previously been reported outside mainland China - in Hong Kong, the Philippines and Japan....

Not that it's any consolation but even some of the more developed countries do not have a handle on this thing...

Because if the solution to keeping the virus contained is merely giving passengers from affected places 'information' instead of quarantining them then they certainty wouldn't have a handle on it.

And if this virus can transmit itself without showing symptoms in 50% of cases then clearly the advice that only sick ppl should isolate themselves is not enough! Stronger action needs to be taken. You may think that the Chinese Gov't action of quarantining an entire city (or province?) and not letting anyone out of their home is draconian but countries may have to implement stricter measures at least when it comes to ports of entry that are not limited to handing out a pamphlet to a potentially infected passenger and letting them go their merry way infecting another 4-6 ppl who will go on to infect 4-6 other ppl each (according to the R0 value in a recent study)

We need to consider what % of the overall population could die rather than just the seemingly low % of fatal cases as the transmission rate is so high it could kill more ppl than a virus with a higher fatality but lower transmission rate.
So what is 2% of the entire population of Trinidad? 20000 to 30000?

So far this Covid 19 has killed more in a few weeks than SARS did in the entire duration of that outbreak! Where is it going to be in another few weeks or months?

it go reach here eventually and trinidad not able to handle it an most ah we go dead. i start to fuq away with d gym, diets, religion and all that crap. i eating , drinking and enjoying life like it go end tomorrow cause you never know wat go happen when that reach. if they lock down trinidad, price will go up, groceries will empty, current, water will go and we go hadda stay home till we dead cause the hospital go give me paracetamol and send we home to die. 3 weeks after carnival if we see no virus i go start back d gym.
