that is what does cause man to get illegal gun. when they realize that, the urgency does turn a law abiding citizen into a criminal.. while the criminals being found is only a set of rusty gun in d bush, bury in the forest and in pipe.

perhaps ilp candidate had gun because he know he living in a warzone and need the gun before he could get the permit.

Duane get real quiet on dis thread allofasudden.
In any event, what ppl have to realize is that there is a reason the general population aren't allowed to keep & carry. That reason is simply the fact that an armed population can easier physically oust a corrupt politician that's raping a country's of it's resources than an unarmed one, regardless of the size or condition of the defensive divisions of the state. These crooked ppl will NEVER allow anyone other than the CoP to issue licenses for that simple reason alone.

With the idiots who offer themselves for office I don't think that a rationalization is likely.

Regardless of party the solution is to make it better by increasing govt intervention.

If we were to rationalize this process into a system that allows those so minded and NOT DISQUALIFIED to learn, train, certify and re certify to carry, use and handle fire arms, we would have an industry that is largely private sector.

Similarly in terms of sustainable development and management of the hunting/wildlife industries we can have an industry that is largely private sector.

In both examples we would have more informed participants which only enhances the quality of information and practices.

Alas we have a pre disposition not to manage but to throw bodies, legislation and oversight at everything.

So in 5 years we will have the same arbitrary chit.

Well what is a Dotish reason to him?
He has full discretion, and there is no mechanism to question whatever decision he makes.
The fire arm appeal board exists?

The problem IS that the process has ONE centralized decision maker.

That has to change.

Law Abiding Citizens Should Get Easier Access To Firearms

Postby Trinbagoviews » January 10th, 2014, 3:59 pm

The recent incident where a knife wielding home intruder was shot a killed by the owner who happened to have a licensed firearm highlights the urgent need for law abiding citizens to be granted legitimate access to firearms. In this regard state policy should be adjusted to immediately remove the bureaucracy in sourcing firearms for law abiding citizens.

Image

Undoubtedly, current policy ensures only the politically connected, the wealthy business class, criminals and on duty police officers can carry firearms. This scenario emboldens criminals because they know that law-abiding citizens are unarmed and powerless to defend themselves. Consequently the majority of Trinbagonians are potential victims.

Indeed, the police service should not have monopoly over your personal safety and security, rather the individual should also be able to credibly ensure their individual safety. Everyone can admit that monopolies inextricably leads to consumer abuse, low quality and high costs, yet this is exactly the fate of the T&T population.

In addition, when considering the best way to ensure personal and family security simply observe what the persons with the most power, money and autonomy do to protect and safeguard themselves. They enlist the services of armed guards to protect them or they use their financial or political clout to acquire firearm licenses. For these same reasons banks, police stations, military establishments and the homes of society's elite are spared the full brunt of criminal intrusion.

Criminals logically deduce that there is a higher likelihood that entering an armed location could lead to their catastrophic demise. Accordingly, if 25% of North Valsayn households for example were armed this would deter criminals as they would know there would be a 1 in 4 chance they could be fatally wounded.

Therein lies a necessary element of T&T's crime plan -citizens constantly cowering in fear as professional victims is not an option.

Nope...the right to bear arms should never be offered to the 'Law Abiding Citizen of TT' as most will be very happy to re-sell to the 'Non-Law abiding citizens'...wait why would people need firearms anyway?

Why not make it a case whereby nobody but law enforcement carries firearms and see how that goes first.

Though I see where you and your group come from, its not as simple as following other models that have worked in the US as our populus is very very different, and the cycle you hope for is a while off.

I going and pee and comr back soon, hope for a better idea

Legal for who and for what? Neither of them will be effective against an opportunist that wants your belongings if they have a gun or two.

Surely you jest.
Trinis haven't evolved enough to handle simple privileges such as cars yet you want to go and give these fools weapons?

that isn't really a valid point because a legal firearm can easily be traced if found at a crime scene
a legal firearm owner won't lend or sell their firearm to a criminal

a criminal will think twice before breaking into a house if he knows there a chance theres someone with a gun inside

legalizing SHOTGUNS for home use is the answer

problem is how would they know who the "law abiding citizens" are

this scenario can be both good\bad
like everything else most trinis would abuse the privilege to bear arms

just like they abuse the privilege to operate vehicles. Trinis don't even have the discipline to use our roads without breaking the law.

not a good excuse because those who have access to the weapons are lacking in all these same areas as well

just sayin

“But he is not known to police in the Western Division so we could not have made an arrest, said an investigating officer.”

There's a huge part of the problem right there....

So, in 2014 divisions haven't sought to find a way to share intel?. #we're screwed

Just saying.

True, but T&T still has not proven its maturity for slack gun control. The last thing we need is a bunch of trigger happy skunts looking to pull gun for every little thing
