People of Trinidad and Tobago

After being stabbed him up several times around his neck and head then threw him out a vehicle

Turning a blind eye to a crime makes you guilty as the perpetrators..

And you never know you might end up in a situation like this would you like if people did you the same.

Imagine they have the audacity to slow down to macko but won't even call the ambulance

Respect to one of our fellow citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, none other than Mr. Shivanan Balkaran for his heroic act of putting his first responder skills into good use on Sunday 19th June to an injured person he found suffering while driving by in the Port-Of-Spain area.

Mr. Balkaran aided in finding and plugging wounds of patient and checking for pulses to ensure that there's chance of survival for victim if ERU responds in a timely manner.

His effort to save the life of a stranger/fellow citizen was truely genuine and in my wishes, he deserves to be applauded, commended and honored for his kindness and courtesy to another fellow citizen in need

Local Tobago ~ Leatherback Turtle

Beaches in Tobago conduct all night patrols because of the amount of poaching.

Approach to patrolling is connected with our method for data collection methodology.

On Friday 17th within the early hours of 3-6am we had the first turtle slaughtered in the last 17years.

This occurred between the night patrol and the morning survey.

The two front flippers were missing and the head was chopped off.

We can't believe this could happen on a beach where so much education activities take place.

This is a heinous act that we will never condone

For such a crime, someone can be fined $100'000 and 2 years imprisonment

Types of Cocoa

1. Criollo - The Rare

The Criollo tree is native to Central and South America as well as the Caribbean islands and Sri Lanka. Only 5% of the world’s production is Criollo.

Criollos are particularly difficult to grow, as they are extremely vulnerable to a variety of environmental threats.

The beans have a white to pale pink colour and their taste is described as delicate yet complex, low in classic chocolate flavor, but rich in secondary notes of long duration.

Considered to be the “prince of cocoas,” Criollo is prized as an ingredient in the very finest of chocolates.

2. Forastero - The Versatile

The most commonly grown cocoa is Forastero. It is most likely native to the Amazon basin.

Today, Forastero is mainly grown in Africa, Ecuador and Brazil and accounts for 80% of the world’s cocoa supply.

What makes it so popular is that it is much hardier and less susceptible to diseases.

It has a much higher yield than the Criollo variety.

Forastero cocoa has purple-coloured beans and is mainly used to give chocolate its full-bodied flavor.

Its bitter taste has a short duration and is unsupported by secondary flavors, which is why it is often blended with superior cocoas.

There are many Forastero subspecies: Amelonado, Cundeamor and Calabacillo, to name but a few.

Amelonado cocoa is the most extensively planted cocoa of all.

Forastero got its name from the Spanish who at first imported Criollo cocoa exclusively from Venezuela.

They regarded Criollo as the original variety of cocoa, as opposed to the ‘foreign’ Forastero variety from the Amazonas region.

3. Trinitario - The Hybrid

Trinitario is a natural hybrid biological class resulting from cross-pollination.

Legend recounts that it first came into existence on the Island of Trinidad, after a hurricane nearly completely destroyed the local Criollo crops in 1727.

Assuming all the trees were dead, the plantations were replanted with Forastero, but spontaneous hybrids appeared.

Trinitario combines the best of the two other main varieties: the hardiness and high yield of Forastero and the refined taste of Criollo.

The quality of the cocoa varies between average and superior. It is the predominant fine flavor cocoa.

Trinitario populations are usually variable in pod and bean characteristics because the parents have highly contrasting characters.

They can now be found in all the countries where Criollo cocoa was once grown: Mexico, the Caribbean islands, Colombia, Venezuela, and in parts of Southeast Asia.

Local Michelle Xavier ~ New Music Video 2016

A former student of St Gabriel's Girls' RC School and Naparima Girls' High School, she recounted her experiences participating in every possible extra-curricular activity.

She sang with a rock band at 14 years and at 16 years joined Imij & Co. "Soca was different for me and I didn't understand the power of the soca artiste."

Someone who is sometimes harsh with self-criticism as it pertains to her performances, she deadpanned, "I would wonder, why would they raise their hands just because I told them to?"

Her experience seems reminiscent of calypsonian, Denyse Plummer. Xavier argued, "Why shouldn't I perform soca? Am I not a Trinidadian? Isn't this a cosmopolitan country? I might look 'different' but so what? I really admire Denyse for her strength. I love Carnival and our culture.

She exudes a quiet charm that is remarkable for someone with her growing status — the image of a strong, confident woman!

Congrats to Michelle Xavier and the Hot Music Group on the release of Move to My Body - Last night 22-6-16 at Club 51.

Local Ganga Dhaaraa 2016 - 1

Ganga Dhaaraa Teerath (also spelt tirath) or pilgrimage represents an ancient tradition in Hinduism.

Man, God and Nature are not separate in the Hindu tradition and the festival, Ganga Dashahara, is about the unified expression of these.

Water is life and human life has depended upon this element since the beginning of time.

Villages, towns and even cities have been birthed at the river’s edge, dependent on the water’s flow.

The teerath is about the leap in the journey of life from physical to spiritual and it is natural that such worship should occur in the river which is the provider of all life.
