Fed up seeing idiot drivers make that exact move. Always say someone go dead on that junction from that kinda stupidity. I not feeling an ounce of remorse for the Lancer driver.

With the amount of red lights I see red band maxis break on that pbr, especially late at night, I don't take any chances there at all. Even if he made the rounds and crossed on green he shudda still stop and watch both ways for people shooting through the intersection. Sorry to hear about the driver but he should have taken it easy

Fatal accidents in Toco, Valencia, Barataria
Published on Jun 21, 2015, 10:15 pm AST
By Rickie Ramdass

FIVE people were killed during an eight-hour period in three separate vehicular accidents yesterday morning in Toco, Valencia and Barataria.

Four of the victims have been identified as Kyle Sorzano, Keston Thomas, Sherwin Charles and Dave Christian.

Police said they were uncertain of the identity of the other man up to yesterday evening.

In the first incident, which took place around 12.30 a.m., 29-year-old Easlom Lankin was driving south along Toco Main Road in the vicinity of the one-mile mark when his car swerved off the western side of the roadway and crashed into three parked cars in the yard of a resident.

Sorzano, 21, and Thomas, both of whom lived at Toco Main Road, were occupants of the vehicle and were killed instantly.

Lankin received minor injuries and was taken to hospital by Emergency Health Services (EHS) where he was receiving treatment up to yesterday evening, said officers.

In the other accident, Charles was killed after the vehicle in which he was an occupant collided with a truck along the Valencia stretch sometime around 4.45 a.m.

Investigators said the car, a silver Nissan Tiida, was being driven by a woman, identified as Gisselle Friday, when she attempted to overtake a line of traffic and crashed head-on into the truck.

Charles, who was the front seat passenger in the car, was killed on the spot.

Police said they believe alcohol may have been a factor in both accidents.

And in Barataria, investigating officers said around 8 a.m., Christian and another man lost their lives when the silver Mitsubishi Lancer they were in made an illegal left turn along Sixth Avenue onto the Priority Bus Route (PBR) where a Nissan Tiida crashed into it.

Fire officers were required to use the “jaws of life” to remove their bodies, police said.

In response to news of the fatalities, Sharon Inglefield, president of road safety lobby group Arrive Alive, called on drivers, especially young male drivers, to exercise more caution on the nation's roadways.

She also said it was about time Government “place speed guns in the hands of the police”.

In that way, Inglefield said, officers would be better facilitated to take proactive and preventative steps in reducing road fatalities.

“Without the speed guns there will be more carnage on the nation's roadways and it will be our leaders who will have to take responsibility for that,” she said.

Autopsies are expected to take place on the bodies of all five victims at the Forensic Science Centre in St James today.

Read that article last night and was wondering how speed guns going to prevent at least 2 out of those 3 accidents.
Clear bad decisions

Speed gun comment is a generic reply when speaking about any vehicular accident regardless of the context. Arrive Alive will always mention breathylyzer and speed guns. They will then progress to speed cameras etc.

So it does have long lines of traffic at 4:45 am on the Valencia stretch?

And wrt the accident in Barataria, did the Tiida break the red light on the pbr or was the deceased in the ck lancer breaking the light as well as making an illegal turn?

Correct that speed guns are not the way forward as they are generally ineffective to everyone other than the PoPo collecting the forget money.

What is really required is a population that is willing to accept the consequences of their actions, or a at least a judicial system that is able to do what is needed to make sure it is no longer the norm.

"A baby, a female police officer, and her mother have been killed in a car crash.

At around noon today, the three were in a car travelling along the M-2 Ring Road, approaching Debe, south Trinidad, when the vehicle was involved in a collision.

At three died at the scene. The Express is withholding the identities of the crash victims until the notification of next of kin.

The female officer is said to be attached to the Southern Division."
