Everyone, (and the players first and foremost are aware of this) that once you can't contribute to a club, you have to go. They stood by him during his illness and at the end of the day it's a business so business decisions have to be made.

Lionel Messi and his father accused of tax fraud in Spain
The player widely regarded as the greatest of his generation and his father, Jorge, face up to six years in jail and a fine of more than £40 million if found guilty of filing fraudulent tax returns during 2007 to 2009.
Prosecutors in the eastern region of Catalonia yesterday filed papers in which Barcelona and Argentina icon Messi and his father were accused of using a complex network of companies in Britain and Switzerland, and tax havens such as Uruguay and Belize, to hide from the authorities income relating to image rights.
The alleged fraud, which involves three separate offences, was said to have commenced before Messi came of age and while his father was in charge of his financial affairs.
Messi, estimated to be the 10th highest-paid athlete on around £13 million a year – which is almost matched by the value of his endorsements – issued a statement on wednesday via his official Facebook page denying any wrongdoing.
“We are surprised about this news, because we have never committed any infringement,” said the 25-year-old four-time reigning World Player of the Year.
“We have always fulfilled all our tax obligations, following the advice of our tax consultants, who will take care of clarifying this situation.”
A judge at the courthouse in Gava – the Mediterranean beachside town outside Barcelona where Messi lives – must accept the prosecutor’s lawsuit before charges can be brought. Should he or she do so, they would consist of both a criminal and civil element.
Defrauding the authorities of such a large sum carries a recommended jail term of two to six years, as well as a fine of 12 times the money in question.
However, criminal prosecution can be avoided if the accused can demonstrate they had no knowledge of any fraudulent activity that was being conducted in their names by their advisers, who could then face charges themselves.
Ignorance would be no defence, however, in civil proceedings, which operate on a strict liability basis and could result in the same £40.8 million fine.
Fraud trials are notoriously complex and the case could hang over Messi for up to two years, according to an expert in Spanish tax law, Pedro da Cruz, of the legal firm Strong Abogados, who also said Messi could be compelled to attend any criminal proceedings.
That would be of huge concern to Barcelona, who refused to comment on yesterday’s news, and Argentina, who are likely to be in the thick of their World Cup campaign this time next year.
The pursuit of Messi by Spain’s tax authorities is part of a crackdown launched in the wake of the country’s crippling recession, with even the King Juan Carlos’ son-in-law, the Duke of Palma, under investigation.

Atletico Madrid agrees deal for Barcelona's Villa
(CNN) -- David Villa looks set to swap Catalonia for the Spanish capital after Barcelona announced it had agreed a deal to sell the striker to Atletico Madrid.
Villa, who is the Spanish national team's all-time leading goalscorer, could cost the 2013 Spanish Cup winners as much as $6.5 million.
"FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of David Villa," read a statement from Spanish title holders Barca.
"The deal is set to bring Barca a maximum of €5.1 million, with €2.1m due this season, €2m more if Villa stays at Atletico next year and another million should he be at the Madrid club the season after.
"Barca also reserves the right to 50% of any sell on fee in the future."
Villa joined Barca from Valencia in 2010 and has gone on to score 48 goals in 119 games.
The 31-year-old has scored 56 goals in 92 matches for Spain and was part of his country's victorious squads at the European Championships in 2008 and 2012 and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Villa suffered a broken leg at the 2012 Club World Cup and, since recovering from the injury, has struggled to command a regular place in Barca's starting line-up.
Villa had been heavily linked with a switch to the English Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur rumored to be interested in the forward.

The man known as ‘Tata’, and the new first team boss at Barça, was born in Rosario (Argentina) on November 20, 1962. He has extensive experience of South American football, first as a player and after as a coach, most recently on the bench at Newell's Old Boys, with whom he won the 2013 Final Tournament.
This would make Gerardo Martino the fourth Argentine manager in FC Barcelona history after Roque Olsen, Helenio Herrera and César Luis Menotti.
