Agreed. I don't only use prime for shipping.
Prime is also prime video, amazon music. Two day shipping is just a perk.

Probably there was really an exodus of clients from Aeropost cause I find these days the collection crowds not like what they used to be. Maybe that explains why my delivery times got cut down generally by a week.

Question is who did these people flock to and how did that impact delivery times with that/those skybox companies?

Yep. RPM.

As the 'new kid' on the block, their service has been really impressive despite all the current challenges with the delivery industry. Turnaround time from Miami to in-hand on average is about 7 days.

Anyone having issues after ordering items on Amazon and it taking long to reach its destination. I ordered an item and it took way longer to reach my sister in the states , they estimated time as 2 days , 2 days turned into 5 after the 5th day I cancelled the order.

Strange, delays happen sometimes though.

Global delays affecting amazon too for sure so that’s expected

Also one of the good things is Amazon sometimes sends you a next item if you say it’s taking too long

Most seemed to have gone to RPM...I can't say that RPM's service has slowed so far.

now I am just with Aeropost for things I might want to return.

was it one of them third party vendors ?
you have to be careful, some of the third party vendors are very sneakish how they specify their shipping.

Pricewise Aeropost is the best only for light + expensive + tax-free items like phones and laptops.

What is the situation on the port with respect to clearing a barrel? I want to send some supplies for my family down there but wondering if I should wait since it seems really backlogged and slow. If air packages are taking a month to clear, how long a shipped barrel will take? Anyone has recent experience with a barrel?

Good day tuners. I wanted to give an update on this as is the latest info for anyone searching for details on barrels.

I shipped 2 barrels 500lbs to Trinidad with Laparkan mid-August. Not a problem this side, just called them, they made an appointment and picked up the packed barrels on time. I paid them, they put a sticker on the barrels and gave me a receipt with a tracking number.

Ship was delayed in Halifax. Took an extra week to load from the regular schedule. It sailed to Jamaica and then transferred eventually to Trinidad. 6 weeks in total. Tracking online said it arrived at the last week of September, but it took another 2 or 3 weeks for Laparkan to call my family there. Laparkan gave them notice of arrival, told them the document processing fees for two barrels gave them an appointment to arrive at the warehouse 2 weeks later. Said they would have to pay rental fees for storage. That bit sounded outrageous because whose fault was it that it arrived late and then taking another 3 or 4 weeks just to call the customer to collect? Anyway I was told that the total above for both documents and rent on the two barrels was about $700. Customs was not too much trouble, but it cleared for $1000. They were not making any big deal about food items, most of which is vat free anyway, but were more concerned about clothes and tools that I had sent. I thought this was a good deal for the value of what I had sent. They said they had a lot of security checking and rechecking at every move, and the drivers were attached to Laparkan for a delivery fee of $300.

So that's the current situation with shipping a barrel to Trinidad. Christmas season now, so expect these delays to extend perhaps an extra 3 or 4 weeks on top of what I described.

^^^ My cousin sent 2 barrels since the end of September.

Arrived in Trinidad around November 7th.

As at 20/11/2021, still waiting for Customs to open the container so no documents received as yet by the local agents.

I should buy a tube of lube for those "rental fees / storage charges" that might come up.

Will keep you posted.

One can only laugh yes.

So remember I posted that one headphone which cost about TT$120.00 had a total of $122.00 to clear.

Check this out (not that I am complaining eh).

This came in ONE shipment:

1 CD

2 headphones

Total Customs Value US$40.77

Charges:

Aeropost:

Freight --- $73.79
Warranty / Returns ---- $10.16
Service Charge --- $16.93

Total Aeropost charges - $100.87

Government Charges:

Customs VAT --- $36.90
Purchase Tax - --$19.29
VAT on Local Handling --- $2.12

Total Government Charges - $58.31

Total Charges to clear --- TT$159.18

This rounds I got away from Customs Duties. Thank God.

Every single time and I don't play with the value of the items.

What I pay is what I pre-alert.

It does not stop Customs from putting whatever they want sometimes.

BTW - The VAT on Local Handling is on the Service Charge from Aeropost.

So my last order came in today. I did not realize it weighed 2.4 lbs.

I headphone - cost USD$9.99 = TT$70.00

Customs value - USD$15.04 = TT$105.28

Aeropost Charges

Freight - TT$92.62

Warranty / Returns - TT$10.22

Service Charge - TT$17.03

Total Aeropost Charges - TT$119.86

Government Charges:

Customs VAT --TT$13.69

Online Tax 7% - TT$7.15

VAT on Aeropost Service Charge - TT$2.13

Total Government Charges - TT$22.97

Total to clear item that cost TT$105.00 was TT$142.82

Customs adds a CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) value to the original price of the items.

I do not know what formula they use and sometimes the CIF can be quite brutal going past 100% of the original value.

Maybe those more knowledgeable can clarify.

And the sad part is, to query something is not even worth the extra they charged you
